I'll "one up" ya.
Bought the c5 vert in July. Wife's DD, but I've always drooled to get one. Seveal buddies have vettes.
Anyway, my parents come over one day. Had not told them about the vette. My mom (80, undergoing chemo) proceeds to expound on how BEAUTIFUL that convertible is the garage.
We end up over at their house a couple of weeks ago. She says she has to go outside and take a look at the car. Wife asks her if she'd like to sit in it. Then I ask her if she'd like a ride.
Spend the next 1/2 hour driving around Glen Ellyn, IL with the top down. She was in her glory.
I think my mother now has a higher opinion of me that anytime in my 55 years. Makes it all worth it!
what a nice story. i have had a few old men do the same thing.
on that note of "old men". This past summer our club (a small one) had 7 of our cars on display at an event. A older gentilman (who was one of the food vendors) walked up and asked "what kind of cars are they?" When told they were Corvettes! He asked; when did they first come out? Don't know if he missed his medication that day...
Interesting post. I was at the harbor this weekend and when I came back to the car a very elderly smiling lady stuck her head out of her car and said: "there sure is alot of difference between your car and my Honda. Nice car!" I swear she was 80 if she was a day old. Too bad she wasn't about 50-60 years younger.

It is interesting how we assume that older folks have little or no clue about certain things...like cars for instance. Truth is, most of them have lived more life and know more about living then we do!
One of the greatest people I've ever known was a lady named Allie. She was a member of my church and a real pistol! She had some of the greatest stories you have ever heard, including being a cowhand in Old West Wyoming. She had a picture of herself in those days wearing the full cowboy garb including chaps, a six shooter and boots. She passed away a few years ago at 95 years young and was one of the sharpest witted and nicest people I've ever known and she didn't like boring church services either so I always had to make sure and spice things up for her...and if I didn't go up every Sunday and give her a big hug I was in real trouble!
Designer Imagines A Corvette That Looks More Like a Corvette Than the Corvette
Slideshow: A Jaguar designer's personal project imagines what a modern front-engined Corvette might look like if Chevrolet revisited the golden age of the Stingray.
