Ok, here's a question that I would love an answer to. Yesterday while on my way home on the interstate a full size ford superduty pick up was riding my bumper. Of course I downshifted to 5th and began pulling away. What suprised me is that he had no trouble keeping up. I could have downshifted to 4th and smoked him, but what is he running in that truck that he can pretty well keep up with the C5? Since I was on the interstate around other cars I had no intention of driving wrecklessly. This was not the Ford Lightening either.

Don't be too sure.
Some of those turbo Diesel trucks can be pumped up to run stronger than you'd ever believe. A boost of +25psi can mean big power and most Corvettes are dog meat if they try to run with 'em.

Was it a Harley Davidson edition ford pickup? I think they came supercharged and I had one give me a good run when I had my Pace Car. Of course he had some other mods too.
The truck was all black with an aftermarket chrome grille so I don't think it was the H.D. They're orange and black right? A previous post mentioned about boosting the turbo diesel. Thinking back I did notice some black coming from his exhaust, not much, but I did notice it so it very well may have been a powerstroke.

You mean that these trucks will run 170 mph+ Wow I didn't know that.

25psi of boost!!! That's insane, and sad that the truck would need that much just to hang with a Vette. You also make it sound like 25psi is nothing. You could put that much through a Geo Metro and it would be crazy fast.
I have an 05 Silverado Duramax. I purchased a Van Aaken programer which
gives me either 75 or 150 more HP. I don't use the high setting because it
can tear up the tranny. I have briefly hit 25psi but there are guys out there
that can go higher than that but at a price if the tranny or gears aren't
beefed up. Once these babys get wound they can get with it. Next time
just drop it into 4th and wave bye.

Actually, believe it or not, yes. There are some out there (obviously modified) that will do 170+. They're obviously not the norm, however.

I don't think it's really sad...you're not comparing two equal vehicles. You're comparing a truck that weighs over 6000lbs (ballpark, I really have no idea how much they weigh) with a sports car that weighs half that. And I think it's a little easier for them to push 25+PSI of boost with their diesel motors, as opposed to you Vette guys, or even my Lightning. I'd need a built block for that. I don't know that for sure, maybe they need to be built as well...but alot of them are just slapping on programmers and upgrading exhaust and the like and turning the boost up with crazy results.
My buddy has some sort of Roush Racing F150 - not really sure what it is since I don't have much of an interest in Fords but I'll email him to find out.
Probably was a programmed Powerstroke. I have one and with a simple program retune of "only" 85 HP (can go to 100+ but never went there) this big truck really wakes up. Can't run with the MN6 C5 but it will run once rolling. Just drop down one gear though and "BYE BYE" F250.

I think you probably ran up against a 6.0 diesel. I have one in our 04 Excursion. I put an Airaid intake on it, a 4" straight thru exhaust and a hand held tune. This thing weighs 7800 lbs. empty and really runs well. Too much weight to be a racer but here in the mountains it will outpull a lot of so-called performance cars. I can typically pull 30-32 lbs. of boost anytime I go to WOT. The vehicle gets 19-22 mpg at speeds from 70-85. The exhaust temp. has never exceeded 1175 degrees. They have a 4 speed auto with an overdrive, a loose converter and with the engine delivering gobs of torque from 1500RPM on up they are an amazing vehicle.
A friend of mine has the Ford super duty with all the goody's to make the diesel make HP...its bad....now on the other hand....Chevy Duramax...a friend of mine sell's them and said there is a guy in Mobile that has a Chevy HD Duramax diesel that puts out 700HP and run's consistant 12's in the 1/4 mile!!!

I would never believe that without hard evidence (which obviously isn't available).
