My baby needs an inspection (actually 2 months overdue because of my fear and dread !)....
My question is this - is there anything special I need to tell the person doing the inspection? It is an older service station and they seem to be careful, but I have heard that vetts should have the doors opened before placing them on a lift - I'm not very confident in this information and know the readers of this forum have the most accurate info available.....

I don't know why they would need to put it on a lift in the first place, unless your particular state requires some sort of positive visual look at the catalytic converters or something. My caution here would be the lifting aspect (if needed). If they do lift, be absolutely sure they are lifting from the correct locations underneath your car. If they have not lifted a C5 before, DON'T TAKE THEIR WORD FOR IT, especially if you hear something like "Oh, we lift sports cars all the time".
Don't worry about the door open/closed thing on a C5. Not an issue. The C5 frame structure is very rigid and as long as the recommended lifting points are used this is not a problem.
Bottom line: If they are not required to lift it for this inspection, then don't let them. HTH
