Yes. And if you mean replacing it with the convertables retractable antenna it can be done.
Many of us replace them with a "shorty" antenna.
Thanks. What I am more concerned with is (actually, probably kind of silly) ease of putting on a car cover. I have found a '03 Z that I am in love with, but with two small children at home, it will always be covered in the garage to try to protect against those bumps and bruises little kids can be so good at. The last car I owned that I would cover was a Camaro and it had a fixed mast antenna as well. It was a real pain in the butt to keep taking off and putting on the antenna mast.
After thinking about it...a grommet on the car cover is probably much easier anyway.
The Z06 cover I ordered actually had a grommet repair kit for the antenna. I just twist it on finger tight and take it off when I put the cover on. It's not that hard to do and I just set it in the trunk. I do have one of the mini ones though...
they are a supporting vendor on the left under parts.
No complaints on reception in the city adn near suburbs. I llive 25 miles from chicago in des plaines and i dont notice any reception loss. Hope this helps you out. It looks a lot shorter in person too.
I don't understand why anyone would want a power antenna. It adds weight, makes noise, its another thing that can go wrong, it uses juice from the battery, no matter how little. Just having to listen to it and have it go up & down everytime you turn the radio on or off or switch from CD to radio or vice versa...I don't get it. I had a power antenna in my WS6 and was really happy the first time I turned on the radio on the Z06
and i dont understand womens obsession with shoes, but its happens.... cant get hot over it or think too much about it cause it will drive ya nuts. Some people like, some dont. unless you race competitively on a regular basis, I dont think the weight of a power antenna is a big deal. JMHO
Most individual weight reductions make very little difference by themselves, I agree. its the combo of all them them thats makes the difference. Thats why the Z06 is so light. And thats only one of the negatives against a power antenna, no matter how miniscule. You can add in cost to the equation too. The point is, I just don't see any benefit of having a power one over having a stationary one.
Come on guys, the power antenna weighs less than 1 pound. If weight was such a concern on the z why do they have power windows, seat and air conditioning? This is one of the first mods I did to my 04 z. Got it on ebay for 50$. I got tired of removing the antenna each time I put the cover on. I even put in a bypass switch so I can leave it down when I listen to cd's. Of course, I'm ****. I even put on tail light seals!

With the addition of the bypass switch this is a useful option and eliminates any chance of someone or something bending or breaking an antenna that is up (even the shorty's). My .02 cents.

A power antenna in a Z06 would actually be a good thing from a performance stand point. By placing extra weight in the rear you shift the bias back which enhances good handling in turns. Also, because the power antenna is in the right rear you've placed the weight in the optimal corner for improved traction off the line in drag racing. Drag racers always place ballast in the right rear.
