I'm trying to order a magnetic drain plug for my Manual Transmission and the Rear Differential. If I'm gonna find this answer online anywhere, I know it'll be here.
Anyone know the Size and Thread of the drain plugs? I could pull them and check, but I hate to waste the Oil. Has anyone already done this and got a good place to get them?
Thanks all!
There was an article in the car section of the "Kansas City Star" today about the magnetic oil drain plugs. It stated that if the metal shavings were small then the filter would do its job. If they are big shavings then you would do better to do an overhaul than get a magnetic drain plug. I've never had one of the magnetic plug, so I can't say. Just reporting what I read.

They are technically correct on both points, but only when talking about the engine.
In a rear differential or manual transmission you're not opening it up very often and there is no filter. So those little and big particles can have quite a bit of time to do some damage and will freely flow with the oil as it circulates, going through your gearsets over and over in different places possibly causing a lot of damage.
Had it happen on the differential on my Camaro and (no magnetic plug) it took the Ring and Pinion with it.
Was not a good day. Car was out of commission for two months during "Cruising Season". Knew something was up when the rear started whining when engine braking and heavy pedal acceleration.
