Default Help with ummm...smell!

Thought I read somewhere about smells...but 'search' brings up all kinds of funky threads. (and not the kind I'm looking for )

411:
Vette is one year old and I'm it's only owner. It lives in the garage under a new Noah cover.
Got the cover off and jumped in, only to be assaulted by this funky, musty type odor.

Worse yet, when I started her up...the smell began coming from the vents???? Puke!

My poor baby needs some hygiene help!!

Griot's Garage sells a couple of products that will get rid of interior smells, Lori. Here's a link....

Also - you might think about spraying some Lysol Spray in the ducts to kill any bacteria that might be growing in there from moisture....Good luck!

I had a Camaro that got rained in (never took a nap with the top off again) and ended up with a mildew smell in it. After shampooing the entire interior i still had that lovely smell coming from my a/c unit. I sprayed a bunch of febreze into the vents and that took care of the smell.

Good luck!

Thank you for the replies!! (except you KDee )

Is there someplace in the engine or underneath the car I could clean? I feel that it is something there and not like on the carpet or anything.

It makes me sick!

I'm going to buy some of that from Griot's Garage for another car though!

Might be mold in the AC system - if you want to get the whole duct system cleaned spray whatever you decide to use (Lysol or ?) into the outside fresh air intake vent. Once the air smells fresh you will hopefully have gotten rid of all the nasty stuff.

Good luck.

Have you tried any of the above mentioned methods? And if so, did they work, cause I have the same problem, but i think something internally needs to be cleaned. It really is only bad when the AC is on. As for the warranty, i really dont see why not, but I just hate the dealership!

I know I'll be corrected if I'm wrong, but I think this problem is caused when you turn off the a/c and immediately turn off ignition. The moisture that is left in there is what causes the moldy smell. I think they advise to leave the fan on for a minute or so to dry it out some before shutting it off. As WDDarts said, to get rid of the smell you'll have to get the disinfectant through the entire vent system.

I have this happen in my van all the time (Has dual AC units) In addition to the lysol trick, you can also run it with the heat blasting for a while to burn out all the YUK. This may help until you can get the spraying done...

Good luck.

I had the A/C musty odor problem. What I did was spray some Lysol into the vents (from the inside) and let the car sit overnight. Haven't had the odor return yet. But I know what I'm going to do if/when it does...

The Lysol trick works. Lift the hood and spray it into the intake area below the driver's wiper. Make sure the A/C is on high.
