Default Remote Start; Still Looking....

Most estimates I've got around my area are $500 and up. Is this the Corvette premium kicking in? or is that about right?? Has anybody experience with this; Python Remote Start/Keyless Entry System? Naturally I don't want to screw up the Vette, but I don't want to give some Bubba my beer money either.

Default RE: Remote Start

I'm kinda new here. This is my first post but I have been lurking for a while now. lots of good info here, and wanted to share a little.

I have also looked into remote start and aftermarket alarm systems. I found them to be pretty pricey....(around $500+ like you said).......and I dont really want to leave my baby with someone else messing around with her that might screw somethign up----at least if I screw something up, I can blame myself!

I found a company that you can buy a system from, they will pre-wire it to your model vehicle, make sure that its compatible, then mark all of the wires, and mail it to you with detailed instructions on installation, so that all you have to do is hook up the wires - they tell you where they are, and what color they are.

I havent purchased yet, but am planning on it in the next few months - I did call and talk to a guy there, and he seemed to know what he was talkign about. Prices were pretty decent too, and if they find it doesnt work with your model vehicle when they are wiring it, they will refund your money.

Not trying to advertise for anyone, just seemed like a good deael to me, and thought some others might be interested.

Because your car has factory security (passkey) it is going to cost a little more. $500 thats high for around here. I know some people don't like the big stores ( best buy and such) but a lot of times they have the best installers. These guys are doing 4 remote starts a day in the winter. Ask to have the "lead" installer work on your vehicle. Directed Electronics (DEI) has the market cornered. They make Viper, Sidewinder, Hornet, Avintal, Wasp, Ungo, the list goes on and on. If you go with DEI the install bay should have a "bitwriter". This tool will let you program the remote start to your liking. To bad you don't live closer I could do it for you.

Here a Viper 560 remote start installed goes for $359 on up. I have had Viper (which is made by DEI) remote starters on every car or truck I have own in the last 8 or 9 years. Some I had installed others I installed myself. I just looked up doing remote start for my 02 and don't remember anything hard about it or any other extra parts needed beside a pack of resistors. Some cars need alot extra stuff for the remote start to work which drives the cost up. IMO I wouldn't go to Best Buy or Circuit City for the install, if the installer was that good he would be working at a stereo shop making double what CC or BB pay. Thats not saying there arent some good installers at that stores, I just dobt they are anywhere close to the best.
