Default Flannel lined car cover

I bought a flannel lined car cover for indoor use only. I always wash and dry the Corvette & wait until the convertible top has dryed before putting on the cover. But when I take off the cover the car has a fine dusting of powder from the flannel. Should this cover be washed and dryed before using it? What effect would drying it in the dryer have on the cloth? I wouldn't want it to shrink as it is already tight across the windshield and I have to pull it quite a bit to slip it over the second mirror. Thanks for your thoughts.

Most of the car covers I've owned came with cleaning instructions. If yours didn't check the manufacturer's web site as some post them there. If not, you might contact their customer service. Also, all the covers I've owned said to air dry them and not to use an automated (gas or electric) dryer.

Good luck.

Or you can take 2-3 minutes with a California Duster and get it off that way.

I wash mine twice a year, on light wash, let it air dry.

You will get fine dust, just use a california duster...

I have the same problem with my California Car Cover. I have washed it several times, there is still some dust, just less of it now.

This is how California Car Covers suggest to wash their car covers:

A home washer is not large enough to accommodate your car cover and provide proper cleaning. Covers should be taken to a commercial laundromat and washed in large automatic washers without agitator. Use a quarter cup of Fantastik All-Purpose Cleaner or Woolite (no soap or detergent). Wash your cover using the "Normal" or "Permanent Press" cycles in cold or warm water. DO NOT WASH IN HOT WATER! Run the cover through two rinse cycles - it is important that all the cleaner be removed in order to preserve the cover's water resistance. Air dry the cover. DO NOT put the cover in an automatic dryer (the fabric can melt). DO NOT dry clean covers. Another way to clean dust from the inside or outside of the cover is to put it on your vehicle and hose it off. To clean the inside, put the cover on inside-out, rinse off and then leave on to dry. To clean the outside, put the cover on normally, rinse and then leave on to dry.

BadBone -

Thanks, that is good info.

I know I could just use the California Duster, but I put the Corvette away clean, cover it to keep it clean, and then need to clean it again before I drive it?? What's up with that?!?

I will just have to accept a little dust through the winter - air drying outside is not an option here until May or June.
