in my firebird i have a gas smell, but no leaks. Turns out the filler neck isnt properly aligned with the gas tank to the fumes escape. only happens if i drive the car for a while, or drive it pretty hard and shake the gass around in it. might be something to look at???
I am getting a gas smell after the car sits in the garage overnight, and now even when I am driving. There appear to be no leaks. Any ideas? Thanks
If the smell's lingering in the cabin you could have a cracked filler
neck; that's what I had. Unfortunately, it's expensive to fix because a
new tank is required. Luckily, mine was fixed under warranty. It could
also be that the tank was overfilled and gas seeped down the runoff
holes located under the gas tank opening. If that's the case, then see
if a local car wash/detail shop has something to pour down the gas
runoff holes to help kill the smell quickly. Good luck...
Took the car to the dealer Monday afternoon as it was much worse. I was getting sick from the vapors driving with the windows open. The tank on the drivers side was leaking. They are replacing it and should have it done this evening. They told me it was the first one they have seen. It is covered by warranty.
I had the drivers side gas tank & crossover pipe replaced at 600 miles on my 04 Z06,it was leaking a lot,had to have it flatbedded back to the dealer. There was several posts on this in 04, If I remember it was a bad batch of gas tanks that got thru inspection. Have had no problems since.
