I was looking at a C5 on Ebay this morning and among the options was listed "Compass/Temp Gauge". I ran a search on descriptions and came up with some others that listed this as an option, including a 2002. My owners manual makes no mention of this device, nor does the dealer order sheet I found on CAC.
Is there such a such a device on C5s? If there is can it be retrofitted? If there is not, what made all these guys think it is an option?
They've all got an outside temperature sensor (or at least the newer ones do), but I don't know of a compass option. It's probably aftermarket if he's got one.
I believe this option is located on the Self Dimming Rearview Mirror. I've seen several posts on how to install them on prior years. On cars without this option the OAT is displayed on the AC display on vehicles that have the Automatic Climate Control Option.

I have both the electronic self-diming mirror and the climate control system, and there is no compass in either one...unless there is something not in the manual. Think I'll ask one of these sellers how it works.....
Sorry, I drive a lot of different GM vehicles. Just assumed that if I started seeing this switch from AC display to the mirrors four years ago on the cheap car, surely the Vette would have had one by 03 or 04 (mine's a 00). They do make good ones for after-market.
I bought one of those and installed it on my 84 Camaro with Self-dimming, Compass, and OAT. They are around $200 with map lights, compass, and with or without OAT.
Without OAT $189
With OAT $229
Very simple install. Especially if you get the one without the OAT
