I'm sure we've all seen more than one 6.5 vs. 7 quarts of oil debate, but after a recent oil change, I've got to ask the 6 vs. 6.5 question.
Since I'm out of town, I went to Wal Mart to get my oil changed and get a haircut (how many places can you to that!). I've gone there several times before and have always specified 6.5 quarts and then give me the other .5 quart to go. This time the guy only put in 6 quarts. The cool thing was they only charged me 2 cents for that 6th quart, but it wasn't what I had asked for. He said that he used to work at a Chevy dealer and that's all he ever put in Vettes there. He did finally say that if I noticed the oil level being low that I could come back for more oil no charge.
I've checked several times, mostly because I didn't believe him, and the oil level isn't low! Any idea as to why??? When I change it at home myself and tilt the Vette a little bit forward to get that extra bit drained out, putting in 6.5 quarts seems to put the level pretty much right on the mark. They of course didn't tilt the car forward so I don't know if the lack of doing that is helping out with the level. They also pre-filled the oil filter before putting it on. Well.........
my best guess is that you allow it to drain longer than they did....I have the "quick drain" valve installed in mine...and while I no longer need a wrench to drain the oil...it takes forever and a day to drain but I usually do other stuff while it drains and I don't mind....as long as its full I wouldn't worry about it.

I would like to get the quick drain also.
Usually when it is draining I have the hood open, and I clean up a little inside the bay and piddle around for a little while waiting for it to drain all out.
It was not high enuff from the rear-end, and they probably did not let it drain long either....mine took 7....that's with the rear higher, and me waiting 30 minutes to add...
He didn't drain all the old oil out. Quick oil change place = half steppin. Personally, I can't ever imagine any scenario where I'd let Walmart touch my hair or my car, but that's just me.
Always raise the rear higher than the front and let drain as long as it takes. Fill the filter and it always takes 7 qts. Need to get all the old stuff out otherwise your just adding fresh oil to some dirty oil. Wally World to work on my Vette. I don't think so.
That's all the more reason to always change the oil yourself...and you don't have to be a rocket scientist to change it.
If possible, do lift the rear and get all of the oil out...looks like that guy left some oil in your crankcase and you now it's contaminated with the old oil...at almost $5 a quart for Mobil 1 that guy did you a disservice.
P.S. I just checked your profile and I noticed you're an engineer...you should know better.
