Hey i need some info on some fluid changes i need to do on my 01 z06. I searched for a DIY guide but cant find one. I need to do the trans/diff fluid due to the car having 52k on it now. If you dont have a diy guide could you briefly tell me the drain/fill locations and quantities? Thank you for your time! -Tyler
Well hopefully someone will chime in for the A4; it's A4 is probably easiest, loosen drain plug and drain! Fill at AT neck like any other AT .... but here's the procecure for the manual tranny:
Assuming you have jackstands, a pal to help for 1/2 hour, about 6' of 1/2 clear tubing, and a funnel.
The drain for the tranny is on the pass side (low in the tranny) and the fill is on the upper driver side. Both tranny and diff are a metric hex, don't know the size (biggest one in my 3/8 set). After draining tranny, stick the tube in the fill port and have your buddy pour in Mobil 1 synthetic ATF - takes just over 3 quarts with a drain/fill - fill until it runs out.
The diff drain is directly underneath, forward of the cross-member. Fill is on the rear of the diff, visible from the back. Use the tube/buddy and fill with 4 oz modifier first, then approx 2 qts of mobil 1 synthetic gear oil 75w90 or until it begins to run out.
The official "dry fill" (assumes you could get all the fluid out) quantities are :
Rear Diff - 1.69 quarts of SAE 75W-90 Synthetic Axle Lube and 4 ounces of limited slip additive
Manual Transmission - 4.1 quarts of "Dexron III ATF
Automatic Transmission - 10.8 quarts dry (overhaul) and 5 quarts wet (drain & fill) of Dexron III ATF
If you use some of the popular aftermarket Rear Diff oils you don't need the slip additive as its already in the oil (i.e. Redline, Royal Purple, Amsoil, etc...)
Where you'll find controversy is if you ask what oil is best for your manual transmission.
I use about 4.5 quarts of Royal Purple...Synchromax® Manual Transmission Fluid. It's recommended for manual transmissions that require either an automatic transmission fluid, multi-viscosity motor oil or straight grade motor oil.
For the rear differential I use Red Line 75W90. It contains the friction modifier which is recommended for limited-slip units. Generally it takes about 2 quarts.

Good luck with your service and enjoy your car!
except that I was never able to get more than about 3.75 quarts in my tranny (before I had a tranny cooler installed as part of my SCCA T1 class preps). Order 4 quarts and you'll be fine.
What's a tube/ buddy? I used a funnel taped to some clear tygon tubing and had the funnel taped to a ladder so it was 3 feet off the ground. The old differential fluid looked like gray paint at 50 k miles.
