I was driving my car on Saturday enjoying the unusually warm weather in Virginia. I pulled onto a four lane road and for the shear enjoyment of hearing the exhaust note, punched it. Car revved up like normal and took off. When I slowed back down though I noticed that the check engine light was on. It didn't flash or anything, just came on. Didn't notice anything in how the car drove, sounded, smelled, etc.
Got the car home and popped the hood. Upon closer inspection I found a new, very slow coolant leak. Looks like one of the hose clamps is loosened or something. Is this water leak enough to trip the check engine light or should I also be looking for something else.
Don't want to drive the car until I know I'm not hurting it; means too much to me.
keys on the on position... hold the options button while pressing the fuel button 4 times... then it will show ya all the codes.. click reset to go to manual mode and shift through em with the top 4 buttons...
Have you fueled the car recently? Check the gas cap and make sure it it is installed correctly. When installing, turn it until it clicks several times. An improperly installed gas cap or a cap that is not sealing properly can cause an evaporative emissions (EVAP) system malfunction which will set the Check Engine Light. A steady Check Engine Light is very likely an indication of an emission control system malfunction. A flashing Check Engine Light may indicate a misfire or more serious problem. You can find more info on the Check Engine Light in your owners manual which you may want to read.
Also, I would suggest that you update your profile with the model year/type of your car or include it in your posts. This info will help those trying to help you.
I checked them this morning and found three current codes on the car: P0137, P0151, P0157. All three of these are described as HO2S Circuit Low Voltage.
Is this an oxygen sensor (O2) or is it some sort of water sensor (HO2-only out of order)?
Just want to make sure I'm not hurting the car at all. Thanks for all the help.
That stands for Heated Oxygen (o2) sensor. It may be that your sensor is toast or as simple as a loose connection.
The P..137 is Low voltage Bank 1 sensor 1, the other 2 are Low voltage Bank 2 sensors 1 & 2. Wish I knew the fix for you.....do you have sims or any mods that involved the O2 sensors???
Must have been a loose wire or something. I had hit a bump rather hard about twenty minutes before the check engine light came one. Went out to the car today and the check engine light was off and there were no current codes. Drove it all around and the light never came on. Guess it's good to go now.
