I live in So. Ca. (Orange County) and looking for a C5. If I purchase a car from out of state (outside Ca) will it have the proper smog equipment or will I have major problems with the DMV? My first post as a new member. Thanks
I bought my first C4 in Chicago and I brought it to California. The California DMV required me to get a smog certification. The guys that check and issue the smog certificates didn't say anything at all about it being an out of state car. They tested the exhaust for excessive emissions and they also checked to see that there was a catalytic converter installed, and they passed it. I had no problems.
Maybe some other members here can chime in with their experiences.

Why do you have to buy one "out of state"? When I was looking for a used one, I found plenty of choices available in the Auto Trader by private parties and if you want a newer one check out Connell Chevy in Costa Mesa. They usually have a good stock of Vette's on hand. PLus, I've also noticed that Mercedes dealers seem to have a few now and then.
Also, after a certain year (but I don't know which year) Vettes became 50 state legal for smog.
I brought a 2001 in from Chicago this September, I arrived at the Auto Club with my smog certificate and was out within 20 minutes (and almost $3K lighter). As long as it's 2000 or later you can bring it in with less than 7500 miles.
I just moved from Chicagoland to San Diego County with my 2000 vette that was bought new in NY state. Breezed through the CA smog test with IL license plate (for that matter, so did my 97 Honda).
