Last fall I bought a pair of Pirelli P Zero Neros for the front of my C5, and this week I got the matching pair for the back. The backs have rim protectors on the tire, but the fronts do not. I'm curious if this is a new thing for these tires, or if the rim protectors aren't available on the 245-45-17s, but only on the larger sizes like our rear tires?
I have the PZero Nero M&S, I love them, I've got 22,000 miles on mine and I think they are just now about at the 1/2 way point. Plus I think they're even rotatable? Total cost with warranty was $810.
Here's some pics of mine a few thousand miles ago.
tire and rim...you can just make out the "pzero nero"
I have the Pirelli Zero Nero A/S on the front. Thought they might be a little better in the rain, wear, comfort, and noise. I really like them but if this guy is right they are not as good in the rain...I try to avoid it....and they are a little softer.
Response from Tire Rack
Mike: The same standards are used for both Summer and All Season Tires, but the results are only comparing like tire. All Seasons with other All Season and Summers with other Summers.
All Season Tires go through a syping process in their manufacture where slits are cut in the tread blocks to provide more biting edges in snow. This is good for snow but not for dry and wet as it breaks up the tread blocks and allows more tread wiggle. The benefit of the syping is better traction in snow, where summer tires provide virtually no traction. In addition the rubber compound in All Season Tires makes the tire more flexible in cold weather.
The Goodyear Eagle F1 GS-D3 is one of the best Maximum Performance Summer Tires and my personal favorite for dry and wet traction for the agressive drive. I have owned 16 Corvettes and the GS-D3 is the tire I liked best on my two C5s.
To recap:
Summer Tires will give you the best dry and wet traction, very little snow traction and reduced traction in cold weather.
All Season Tires will give you less traction in weet and dry, much better traction in snow and better traction in cold weather.

If I didn't drive my C5 in the winter, I would've gone with 285s out back, that would look nice.
Glad to see you made it over here MR1911, I hope you're enjoying your C5 a lot!
