Default LoJack question

Has anyone ever used a "LoJack" ant-theft device?

Has it ever recovered your car? Is there a monthly charge for the service? Do you think that the monthly price is fair?

Am considering getting one of these, just not sure.

Thanks,
Mark

PS Hope it is ok to post this question here.

I have lo-jack on my wife's tahoe....one time fee for equipment and install, no monthly charges. Never had to use it (knock on wood). I heard of a stolen car that was a chase after it was located by the lo-jack device.

No monthly fee. What LoJack does is hide a radio transmittor in your car that is coded to match up with your vin. When you call in your car as stolen, the police enter your vin in the police computer and that sends a signal to your car to start transmitting. Once your car starts transmitting, police cars that are equipped with LoJack tracking devices can track down the signal coming from your car and recover it. It is a pretty cool system, I have thought about getting it too.

This is a much better product. It can actually find your car and you have control of it unlike Lojack. Link Oh, did I mention that it's cheaper?

That is pretty cool. The only problem with a GPS tracking system is that the signal is lost if the vehicle is parked in a garage (or anywhere you lose a direct line to a Satelite). But it gives the consumer a lot more control (and allows them to deal with the thief without the Police and their pesky "due process" mumbo-jumbo ). I may need to look into that system instead.

That's why Lojack is better. Also, all you have to do is call the police. Not contact another company or relay info. Plus if they cut the battery, Lojack has a 10 hour back up battery in the unit. So if they cut the wires it's still tracking. You can also upgrade so that if the car wasn't recovered, you get back what you paid for the lojack and $5k towards a buying a car. I sell Lojack at my work. Were you gonna get just the tracking device? I can give you a good deal on that. PM me if you're interested.

Before you invest check with your local cops and make sure they have the equipment to receive the lojack signal.
