I went to search for fuel guage problem and it said it was closed? I've heard that C5's have a problem with the fuel guage reading empty and that is what happened to me today. I know I had half a tank left and I filled it up and now it's working, but for how long I don't know. Will this keep happening and how is it corrected? Does the extended warranty cover this problem? I have an '02 with 22,000 miles. Thanks Doug
Way common. Warranty fixed mine. It was the left sender. Like clockwork went to zero when needle reached half. I had first tried the liquid cleaner to no avail. Good Luck.
Heard that the best thing to do is to stick to chevron supreme gas to prevent further occurences. This is what the dealership suggests and is their first approach to solving this problem.
Don't even know where a Chevron station is around here.
We don't have any Chevron stations around here either. I've been using Shell V-Power and haven't had the problem, but some have. Perhaps you just need to switch to another major brand and see what happens.
4 years ago,at 19,000 miles, mine acted up,"reduced power" and all the other codes,i added a can of BG44K to the gas tank, never had the problem again,i add a can every 6 months. The sulfer builds up on the parts in the tank.I used sea-foam once in the tank, but BG44K works better than anything i tried. It also clean combustion chambers(not thru the Intake hose)and the whole fuel system.
I also only used chevron, but that has sulfer too.

Hey Doug,
I'm fairly certain there was a TSB for the '01s. If it went beyond '01, I don't know. In any event, about 3 years ago, just after I got my Vette, I had the same problem you described. Took it to Bob Bell and they did some sort of reprograming. No problems since. Hope this helps. I would think the extended warranty covers this.
Sue and I are going to try to make it the meeting on Monday. Hope to see you there.

Had the same problem with my '98. Got it fixed under warranty, only to return two years later. My best luck has been with Shell 93 octane. I've also tried the remedy many forum members had suggested, and that is adding a can of Techron (any auto parts store) to clean the fuel system and sensors. This seems to have helped, as the problem has not returned. Also as you may have noticed, usually, once you turn the car off and back on, the gauge will return to normal. Check the weights and measurments sticky at the top of this forum for additional info on the fuel gauge problem and C5s in general. Zuti
