My GF's son just bought a 01 m6 coupe. Here's the problem he is having. Its showing a "reduced power" warning and it wont go over 2000 rpm. He said that previously if he shut the car off it would reset, but not this time....Since I dont have a clue what this reduced power thing is (dont have anything like it in my 99 FRC) I've come to the all knowing Corvette forum for the answers......
Just went out to the vette and checked my owners manual..and sure enough....there it was...."reduced engine power". But the only thing it advised, is to reset and if it reappears take it to a chevy dealer....anyone have any other input as to what usually causes this to appear...? Thanks..

My car is doing this now. It is showing a 1120 code, and I was advise to start w/ the accelerator pedal. If not that I was told to move on to the throttle body sensors. The best thing to do is take it to the dealer, unless it has heavey mods. Mine has heavey mods so I'm taking it to a specialist.
I had a problem like this once and bought a power programer and had to put on a new throttle body and the power programer made it run better then it ever did. Car had 80,000 mile also. Not saying to go buy this stuff but it help on the 98 coupe. Hope it helps.
There are several of these type warning messages that the C5 model years including your '99 FRC can display, depending upon the circumstances. First find out from him the exact wording of the message and post it here. Next, have him run the onboard diagnostics for any Diagnostic Trouble Codes (DTCs). The following link tells how to run the diagnostics and provides a list of the DTCs by model year:
Computer Codes and DTC Information
(NOTE: Once you've clicked on the model year, the next page will provide instructions on running the diagnostics. Click on READ MORE toward the bottom of that page for a list of the DTCs for that model year.)
Once he has done this, post the exact warning message along with the DTCs and hopefully someone here may be able to help him with the problem or at least lead him in the right direction.
Here's another good site that covers the C5 on-board diagnostics:

the links only go to the year 2000, so is there one to go up to 2004?It would be nice to print these out and keep them in the car. Thanks
To be honest...I'm not sure. Hopefully someone else might have a list of the newer models. It would seem that maybe there's not too much difference and that if your car throws a code for a really off the wall reason you should be able to get a dealer or maybe someone in the tech department at Fichtner Chevy to help you decipher it (1-800-234-5284)...or post the code in the C5 Tech Forum. There are some seriously good gearheads over there. The guys at Fichtner Chevy are the best and always extremely helpful plus they are a Forum sponsor. I buy virtually all my GM OEM parts from them.
