Weather stripping on a C5
I made a topic on the care of the weather-stripping and care if it in a C5. As I was applying my 303 aerospace protestant, I noticed that the weather stripping is very odd. There are these strange little pieces of it that are very oddly shaped and easily prone to tearing off. I went out to compare it with our Chrysler LHS, and the Chrysler stripping was very simple. A single piece that runs around the doors and trunk. Our 2000 LHS is a daily driver, winter, rain, snow, and below zero heavily salted roads here in Chicago. I’m thinking, was the stripping some kind of after thought because the car leaked and this stuff was necessary to fix a bad design? Parts of it have broken off and I’m beginning to hear air leaks where this has happened. I was checking the prices for new stripping, and it is ridicules for just a single piece. Does anybody know why this is such a weird design? Does it have something to do with a rush to get the car introduced? And has it been redesigned on later models, after they realized it was a F**ked up design? My Corvette is a 98 with 13,000 miles and a garage queen. For a car with such a price tag, you would think that these things would be top notch.
