The column lock , window motor problems are relatively minor, yet they count against the car like it was total engine failure.
I dont hold much value in CR reporting when it comes to cars... but if you are looking for a toaster...

perfect...........

This is without a doubt one of the most useless, misinformed threads I've ever read. CR itself doesn't like foreign cars or dislike U.S. cars or American Products, it is simply reporting what their readers have experienced. The same with toasters, vacuum cleaners, and shampoos. Consider the "typical " CR subsriber and that will give you a clue (it is people who usually seek out information on what they buy rather than get sucked in with poor products and roll over and take it). I'm a long time subscriber to CR and use it as one guide in my consumerism. As to the person who referred to having to pay to read their reviews on the web, duh...there is a good reason...Guess what they don't take any $$$$$$ from advertisers. I wonder why??? Can you spell CONFLICT OF INTEREST?

They provide misleading information, they know little to nothing about sports cars. You don't use the same rules to measure every car. They don't distinguish between a customer sat issue of cupholder size vs engine failure. If you read the specs on the later corvettes you will see above average in almost all areas, yet they are not recommended, why? Because it doesn't hold much cargo, too noisy, gas pedal causes facial distortion, it uses too much gas... they rate this as all being BAD. Yet these are the reasons people buy sport cars.
They rate everything... what makes you think they are experts when it comes to autos? Do you really think they have the ability to catregorize and determine which attributes are important to each group?
They do some things well.. Rating cars is not one of them..

y'all are confusing their ratings...from readers who are not sport car byers vs. their reviews, done by testing of their own staff. If one of us started off to buy a car based on "consumer" values (repairs, resale value, etc) we'd end up with a Camrey or some such. ( I don't even know these kind of cars because I've never owned a foreign car except a Jag Vert and that was after Ford bought them and my son works for Ford so I got one on the A-Plan and kept it only for 3 years and went back to the U.S. ). We buy a car on what entices us, what seduces us, what we love to put mods on. If you did a survey of CR readers to see how much they spend on mods, it would probably be $35 for plastic floor mats. I don't even trust their toaster reviews, I simply use them as one source of data along with website reviews by those who have bought the products. C'mon guys ignore the unenlightened.

I worked for Honda for 20 yrs, if CR knew what I know they wouldn't rate that well. The diff between Chev and Honda is they address the problems, Chev doesn't, (fuel guage, CLB, axle seal, ect.) BUT I own one anyway. Don't have much faith in CR bought a dryer that rated high, was the biggest piece of s--t ever made.

Everything Japanese they rate great, makes me think they CAN be payed to make some ratings.I remember in the late 80's they rated every thing that came from Japan great. Those years my ex-wife bought a Nissan (brakes were go cart sized!),then a Honda & they were extrordinarily troublesome. The roof rusted through on the Nissan! In only 3 years!!The Honda faired little better,(A/C was a joke) it was'nt up to par with my Escort of that time! The Nipponese have a secret code of silence they use for flaws in their vehicles,& are sworn to secrecy at grave costs if any thing is devulged.I wonder if Consumer Reports know about that?

As far as my '03 C5,its flawless so far @ 3200 mi.,to early to tell. But had an '88 Fiero V6 180,000+ mi. no major problems. Now my DD is a '98 Camaro V6 50,000+ ,good vehicle. The car was never back to the dealer once!I could go on & on, on some of the great Ford & GM vehicles I owned. The Ford I had the most trouble with was a Probe, mostly trans & engine prob,& guess what, both were ***. made!
Lets see how vehicles fare in the frozen tundra of NW In.,were the temps dip around -30*f.The Honda & Nissan we had never could start at those temps.Maybe CR only tests cars in sunny california,They're located there I think?
