I just purchased an 01 auto coupe with 28,000 miles, my first Vette and american made car in about 15 years.
I seem to feel every bump in the road which I would expect from a sports car but I tend to feel allot of it in the sterring wheel too.
As I have never driven a Vette before 2 days ago, I am not sure what the ride should be like.
I did notice going over railroad tracks or a series of bumps, the front end tends to bounce around.
Hoping someone would explain what type of ride and handling are indicitve of a Vette. Also, is it possible my shocks could be worn already.
There is a speciality Vette shop in my area and I am taking it there next just to have everyting looked over. I did have noticable wheel virbration at higher speeds and a balance did help greatly but I still tend to feel many things in my steering wheel that I did not in my previous car. Just for reference, I traded an 04 350Z for my 01 Vette.
It might be the run flats... If they are original... they are like ROCKS... A new set of rubber will make it a whole lot more enjoyable... Your findings don't seem typical... I have a Z which is setup stiffer than the rest and I think the ride is fine... The ride is firm and stiff.. but not jarring... and its certainly well controlled...
A good bet its the tires
My description may have been poorly written. I don't feel as if I can't control the vehicle, I just tend to feel allot more then I have been used to. The tires are BF Goodrich G Force T/A with 20's on the back and 18's on the front. They have allot of tread so I would guess they are not too old.
Here is the size - 265 35 ZR 18. I measured the actual width and they are roughly 11" or 12".
You'll get some bump steer with 265's. I've never driven a new Z so I can't compare. Outside of tire balance or alignment or as you've said shocks.... that's a Corvette!
As others mentionsed, something is not right and you should have the car checked. From your description, it could possibly be a bad shock(s). Good luck with the fix.
