i'm new here and have learned a lot from everyones posts. great site. i have an 02 z that i bought used last feb. fantastik car. i like to work on my own cars up to a point. my first oil change i rolled onto two wood planks to get the car up high enough to get the jack under the jack points that the manual recommends. while underneath it looked like i could just put the jack under the frame right behind the front wheels and in front of the rear wheels and eliminate the wood plank step. i have seen pics of vettes on here that had jack stands in those areas. anyone else do that? thanks for any info. jon
Yes, those are the lift points the factory uses when building the car. I would suggest you get a set of jacking pucks if you decide to use these lift points often.

Jon,
I use a low profile aluminum racing jack (Sears has a nice one for about $175) that I do slide right under the side rails and jack the car up at the tie down points just behind the front wheel and just in front of the rear wheel on the frame.
i don't really want to buy a $150-ish jack, so question about the wood thing. what's the technique, i have a z lowered on stock bolts and am getting a drag setup for the track... just get a 2 X 4 or 2 X6, put it in front of the rear tires...drive on it and jack it up? that simple?
thanks!

I use 2x8's and 2x10's to drive mine up to get the jack under the engine cradle and differential cradle. First set are 35" long and the second set (next level) are about 15" gets me another 4" in the air and works well.
thanks for the info. the wood planks work fine but i just wanted to eliminate that step if possible so i'll just go for the tie down points that you suggested.
for those of you who like using the wood i used a band saw and cut some nice long approach angles on the wood. works well.
