This has happened to me about 4 or 5 times now (that I've noticed) and am curious if it's happened to any of you. Does anyone find that all of a sudden your average MPG sort of "corrects itself" and suddenly drops 0.2 or 0.3 MPG all at once.
On my way home from work the average MPG said 20.5 pretty much the entire way. I haven't reset it in a week or so, so it hasn't been fluctuating now that it's been a while since the last reset. I was driving at a steady 60mph, and looked away for a second and then all of a sudden the average dropped down to 20.2. There is no reason why it should've dropped like that, since I was at a steady speed. And as mentioned in the beginning, this is not the first time I've noticed it doing this.
its the way you drive, my fluctuates all the time... just the computer adjusting to you driving style.
But I was driving at a steady speed, where the MPG would be going up, not down. And like I mentioned, the entire trip home from work, even when inching along in traffic slowly, the readout said 20.5, so there is no logical reason why it should go down to 20.2 all of a sudden when I was at a steady speed on the highway.
i just think its the computer compulation issue... no reason to worry or think about it...
if you fill up a tank and drive it you will notice that the average mpg is different than what you actually get...
i dont know enough to diagnose this but some will chime in.
When I first got my C5 I kept track of the first ten tankfuls of gas to compare the DIC MPG and my own calculated MPG and the two were very close. In fact I think the biggest difference between the two was still only around 0.2 MPG. So I stopped calculating it manually from that point on since I felt the DIC could be trusted (although after today I wonder)
Number of reason, Inclines in the road, strong head wind at that moment. You may have been moving at 60 but it might of taken a few more ponies to maintain that speed, those fuel economy drops.
Maybe just a little blip in the computer. Haven't really noticed mine doing that since I rarely keep it on average MPG display.
I keep mine on either average MPG or oil temperature, so I do keep an eye on the average MPG readout quite often, and this has happened to me at least five times now. It's always odd because it always seems to happen when the average hasn't been reset in a few hundred miles, so the numbers aren't changing all that much, but then boom, they drop 2 or 3 tenths all of a sudden for no logical reason.
Another odd thing is that my trip odometers reset themselves sometime last week. I reset one of them when I last changed my oil and it was at over 6000 miles, then all of a sudden I checked it and it was at 500 miles.

WOW! That must be some head wind to get 20 MPG in a C5 at 60mph!
It happened again tonight! I had brought the average back up to 20.6 this morning, and on the way home it was fluctuating between 20.4 to 20.5. I got stopped at a light and it went from 20.5 down to 20.2 instantly! Something is definitely odd.
