Many of the CF members don’t believe they work and they are a waste of money. I bought one about a year ago (before I got on the CF) and installed it with my new carbon fiber air bridge and I could tell an immediate difference. Those were the only two mods I did and it really woke up the bottom end and the throttle was much more responsive from idle all the way to 4 or 5000 rpm. It would spin the tires easier in the same spots I would drive 100 times before. The engine also had a deeper tone when you got on it. I’m sold on it. Others may bash it but if you don’t plan on doing many mods then it’s worth a try. In fact you could buy one and install it in 15 min and if you don’t feel an immediate difference then mail it back the next day. Usually you have 30 days on most part and still get a full (or partial) credit.
oh yeah, I now buy all my parts from Mid America Motorworks (800-500-1500 www.mamotorworks.com). The prices are simular to the other magazines but Mid America ALWAYS gives me a 10% discount - but you to ask for it. I usually buy a couple hundred dollars worth of parts at a time so that might make a difference too. Just tell them the first time you had a one of thier catalogs that shows 10% off from a corvette show.
Do any of the Forum members have one of these installed on their
C5? What is your opinion of this product. Is it worth the money?
Do you think it works? Where is the best place to purchase this
item?
Thanks for your input, both positive and negative
I have one installed for about 2 years now, seemed to be crisper accel.Took it in to my auto shop instructor, who's been invovled with racing for decades,he thought it could help eliminate turbulance thus maybe a small HP increase. They claim up to 13 horse or so I'd half that & then some.IMO I think you'd be better off getting a port job on yours, think I seen a link on this Forum to a company that does the for 75$ or so.
Do a "search" here I think there were a few documented small increases in horsies by some who dynoed bef & aft,if I'm not mistaken.BTW if you have a smooth coupler you get a different type.I have that set up & had to put a separete clamp on the coupler to make the VR stack stay put.It had a way of working itself out of place,so beware!
I have one in my 99 coupe - it came with a used cold air intake system I bought here on the forum several years ago -
I never put it in the Z06, but when I bought the coupe, I decided to put it in the throttle body-
I don't think it hurt the performance - but I am also not certain it helped.
I would never had bought one for the price they ask - I mean, it's like a hard plastic "huggie" more or less - no great technical feat to manufacture one - why does it have to be so expensive?
