Open a door or leave a window cracked to let the air out. Or just push firmly down in the middle after you first try to close it. There's an air relief valve in the hatch area, but it doesn't work very well.
Step 2: Here's what I do: Pull the hatch down by the inside latches. Then covering my hands with my shirt (or the microfiber towel in the trunk) so I don't leave prints (mine's black) I push down above the latches on both sides of the hatch at the same time.
Works like a charm and I'd imagine this prevent some wear and tear.
I have the same problem. But I did notice that if a window is cracked open, or a door is open the problem is gone. Must be some kind of air tightness issue.
Leave a door open, or do what I do. I bought the Window Valet. Now I can get out of the car with the window or windows down, close the trunk with no problems, and then hit the lock button 3 times, and the windows roll up. No more crawling back in the car to roll up the windows.
