Default Going together

Today I started reassembling the top end. I had a blown head gasket. Oh well, stuff happens. I had been planning on installing the LSX and LS2 TB anyways so it really wasn't that much more to pop the head off and get it checked out.

THe LSX is on and I should start her up tomorrow. Just have to bolt up the header, rockers. pushrods. coil packs and TB. Probably a couple of hours.

I've built dozens of very high HP racing motorcylces in my mispent youth and even though it's been a while I guess it's like riding a bike. The LS1 is really a piece of cake. Still not ready to go into the bottom end and hopefullly I won't have to.

Thanks Andy at A&A for giving me the torque numbers for the ARP head bolts. And thanks PHIL97SVT for the encouragement.

All in all a good day.

Nice job, what were your symptoms when you found out you blew the gasket?

I wasn't leaking around the perimeter of the head but I was blowing a lot of steam. I noticed it about 1/2 mile from the house so I just turn around and got the other car. When I got home the were about 2 quarts of coolant that had leaked out of the freaking mufflers and exhaust joints. I pulled the plugs and it was pretty evident which cylinder it was. I had the head checked and it came back with no cracks but the head gasket did did show signs. BTW it was the number 2 cylinder.
