Default Hand Pump Oil Extractor

Do you know of any brand hand pump oil extractor that has a tube that will fit down the C5 dipstick hole? Griots Garage has one but it will not fit in the C5 vette.

I purchased mine from Pep Boys (no name) Then went to home dept and bought 4 feet of clear tubing and fit it over the tube that came with the pump. It makes it skinnier and it fits in the tube better.

Hmmm I heard oil extractors didn't work on the C5??

Is the oil filter accessible without putting it up on a rack?

I tried this with my 2000 V6 Camaro, there was something at the bottom of the dip stick keeping the tube from going deep enough to suck up any oil. Also with that car, I could grab the filter and take it off without getting under the car, I have long arms. I've never tried that with the Vette but I doubt it's possible.

One thing you have to think about when sucking oil out, are you getting the tiny metal shavings out of the oil or leaving them at the bottom of the oil pan? Just anouther reason to go head and jack up the rear to get that last bit of oil out.

Default I have been thinking about using an extractor

I have thought about using an extractor. Does anyone use one on a regular basis and are they happy changing oil in this fashion?

Personally, I wouldn't use one, but that's each person's own decision to make. Extractors won't remove all the particles that the oil filter doesn't catch and that have settled in the bottom of the oil pan. The old oil needs to be warm and drained by removing the oil pan drain plug to remove as many of these particles as possible. Also, by draining it at the oil pan, you can tell if as much of the old oil has been removed as possible. You have to go under the car to remove and replace the old oil filter anyway. So why not take the few extra minutes it takes to drain the oil by removing the drain plug. Just my $0.02.
