Default Cam Questions

Im all stock as of now with the exception of a borla exhaust system, and i was just wondering what cam i should go with that sounds pretty lopey and good "noticable" i dont want it to big though, but i want people to know its there, and i plan on keeping my stock heads on for the time being....
Does any one have any links or part #'s??

by the way my car is a 97 coupe

THANX

I just put in a fairly mild cam myself. 221/221 575/575 112LSA. While it may not have the huge power capabilities of some of the other cams, I'm very happy with it. I can definately feel the car has more grunt, and I havent even had it tuned yet.

Like you, I have no intention of swapping heads anytime soon. I also didnt want to go with something so extreme that it absolutely required a dyno tune to be drivable.

It definately sounds different, a decent lope at idle and under acceleration it has a more dangerous howl. Cant really be mistaken for stock.

Though I should point out, just today I swapped out my flowmasters for borla stingers and it concealed my lope just a little. Its still there, but the straight through mufflers dont reverberate as much.

What are your long term goals?? I thought I would never SC my car when I had my cam done...fortunately the cam I had was mild enough to work with my SC....they have some good blower cams that make power, have some lope and will still be good later if you do more to the motor....talk to some tuners and see what they suggest ...good luck and have fun

Give Jason at Texas Speed a call - tell him what you want and he will tell you what cam will be best for what you want to do.

Actually I do Its comp Cams P# 54-000-11 Grind LS1 3769R/3769R HR112.0

Keep in mind, that with any cam beyond stock you'll have to go with new vavle springs to accomodate the higher lift. I picked up some Comp 918s with Titanium retainers. I did stay with stock pushrods ...some will say this is bad..and others will says its just fine with a mild cam. Looking back I kinda wish I had put in the hardened pushrods just for peace of mind because its always in the back of my head when I get on it now. Considering they can be had new for less than $140 I feel dumb for not just doing it at the time.

Good luck to you with your cam shopping
