windows and, by the way, where's your front license plate?" That happened the first week I had my Vette. Wall Township's finest...gave me written warning on tint, verbal on front plate. I had the tint removed (so I could pass inspection), and I put my front plate on (much as I hate it). I'm usually in a hurry to get somewhere, and the last thing I need is to get pulled over for no front plate. So, I go down the road with impunity ....oh well
Hawaii has the same lame front plate law as well as an equally crummy safety inspection requirement (and sticker)... Sadly most inspection stations won't give you the sticker without the front plate
However...
I don't run a front plate on my Vette & have been pretty lucky so far. Many of my friends are LEOs; all said the same thing... They normally don't harass Vettes for front plate issues; in fact most don't bother with Vettes at all as "The drivers are rarely punks" and draw "Little attention other than admiration"... Kinda cool I think
I remember being pulled over many times in my Civic, Prelude, and Accord for no front plate (no tickets fortunately, just warnings). All by younger LEO, I assume rookies. Plus I was driving a ricer, not tricked out or anything but an import, which seems to be the focus of many LEO here in Hawaii.
I'm betting you'll be okay with no front plate in NJ but you never know. If you're willing to pay the fine ($55 here) I say go for it
Here in Merced, CA the local police and the meter maids cruise the town and the malls looking for cars with no front plates and other obvious code violations. Then for the first no front license plate the fine is $10 and you have to have it signed off that the car has a front plate. The second and subsequent tickets are $196 each!! In California they WASTE more money and time than a whale eats krill. This is just another TAX! They have a couple of wide major streets where the speed limit is 30 mph when it should be 45, if you drive 30 mph you will have 10 cars behind you honking. Any time the city needs more money to waste they send out a traffic cop! I asked them to lower the speed limit on our street and was told they couldn't because the speed limit is the average that cars drive on that street, Say What? Any rate, if you come here to live, put an ugly front plate on your Vette!
i don't use a front plate either.i have been stopped for other things, but not for the plate.i once got stopped for not wearing a seat belt, when the officer asked where my front plate was,i told him it was in the back.he said and i quote "i wouldn't put it on either".we ended up hanging out and talking about the car and no ticket for "no seatbelt",go figure.

If it's a C5, their is clear version of the factory style filler. I lightly tinted mine with black spray tint for taillights. I have a"3 BLK". 2000. If you own C6, I just spotted a plate holder on "Corvettes of Houston", WWW, I've heard They dont' come with one?
