It's yet another nice day here in Dallas so I went to put the windows down to cruise around on my day off. Only problem was the passenger window didn't move.
I here a clicking noise from the passenger door when I hit the window button but nothing moves. I'm assuming it isn't the motor if these have the same problems as my previos f-bodies. The motors on my Camaros would slow down drastically before finally giving out.
Has anyone had this problem or have any idea what it may be? I'm hoping this will fall into the DIY category (replaced my camaro motors with no problems). Any guestimates for parts cost would be appreciated as well.
Common C5 problem. It was happening to me quite frequently. You can try holding the power window button down and slam the door real hard a few times and it might start working again. I have had to pull the door panel and hit the motor with a hard object ( like the end of a screwdriver ) while holding the button down to make it work. The last time I did it I first squirted WD-40 in the access port of were the cable winds into. I do not know why this worked but it seems to have fixed the problem. I hope I did not jinx myself
Just tried the "Slam the Door" method and no dice. I'm not sure why I didn't try that earlier. I guess you're just luckier than I am that it worked for yours.
I did try restarting the car to see if it was miraculously fixed before I posted this. Had a flashback to our helpdesk guy asking me "Did you reboot?" while I was doing it though.
^ thanks, good info there. I guess I overlooked that thread in my search. I'll try banging on the door panel and if that doesn't work it looks like it's time for surgery.
I may just pony up for the extended warranty and start getting my money's worth as well.
It's not just the Corvette that has this problem. I've replaced 3 on my 2001 Pontiac Grand Prix and just today I received a new one for the rear driver's side that stopped working. GM cars are notorious for this.
I hope yours is under warranty because you'll have a heart attack when you see how much they want to replace one. They wanted $524 to replace the driver's side motor and regulator on my Grand Prix. I quickly learned how to do it myself for $89 and 20 minutes work.

Has anyone replaced the motor/regulator on their vette themselves? I'm thinking of replacing my
driver side motor/regulator myself, but it doesn't look like an easy thing to do when I checked it out.
This would make a great HOW-TO write up for someone who's done it. My window works, but it's making an aweful grinding noise when I roll it down...
Have had this problem about a month ago. Picked up my son from school, tried to roll down the passenger window from the driver side panel- wouldn't budge but I did here the clicking sound. Told my son to try the passenger side panel-no dice. Kept trying the driver side panel a few times-still no luck. Mind you that I was driving, so because of safety issues, I gave up and kept driving for a few more minutes until we hit a red traffic light. Tried it again and VOILA!!!, ****'s working. I was puzzled. Tried this a few more times up and down-still works. So I left it alone like my other electrical ghost problems i.e ( sometimes when starting feels like the battery's dying but starts anyway, the passenger turn signal when turned on sometimes will hear a chime like when you left the lgiths on with the door open) these problems seems to disappear on their own but will switch to Optima's soon. And the passenger side window will be dealt with in the summer.
^ If I decide I have the stones to try a DIY job on this I'll take a bunch of pictures and do a write-up for it. I changed the motors on my Camaros but this doesn't look as straight forward with the pulley system. My only concern is getting to all of the parts to get them off and more importantly, put them back on. I have big hands so getting deep inside the door may be an issue.
If anyone has changed theirs please chime in and let us know how difficult this is.
I had a variation of this problem on the passenger side of my 2000 Coupe. There is a ground in the hardness in the door jamb that notoriously comes loose. I fixed that (cleaned the contactors) and the problem was solved.

Thanks,

Jeff i had the same problem and they had to put a new regulator in for me i think that"s what it is called and i have an 03.Charlene
Could hear mine clicking
Could see the Volt guage go very slowly down (14 to 13.5 in 20 sec)
Took the Panel off , motor was warm and seen cable off bottom pulley .Pulley had side off so I adjusted to a good spot and secured it so it does not roll
Working OK for now
My son's C5 just started having problems with the Pass. side window. It is working, but won't go down all of the way. I thought that it might be the gear assembly in the power window motor. He says he can hear it running, but the window just stops.
He checked with the local Vette shop and they told him (without looking at it) that it was definitely the regulator and NOT the motor assembly. Of course, the motor would be covered by his extended warranty, where the regulator is not.
Anyone out there have this same problem? It sure would be easier (and cheaper) to replace just the motor.
Any guidance is GREATLY appreciated. You folks sure saved us a ton of money on the oil pressure sender a couple of weeks ago.
I had this problem about a month ago w/ the passenger side. The door slamming method worked for me. I hear that the fix is probably temporary and that the problem will re-occur. Gotta love these cars!

Had the same problem in june had to have a new regulator put in because the passanger window would not go down.I tried everything the forum guys told me to too but it did not work for me so i had to take it to it to chevy dealership since it is an 03 and still under warranty.Try what the guys tell you first maybe it will work for you and you won't have to take the car in to the dealer.
