Tucker and Jeff, my wife and I would like to say good luck and are prayers are with you. We are praying that our donations will help and the doctors have wisdom and insight as they conduct the operation.

Thank you very much for the prayers and support. We will be having his surgery done at the Hough Ear Institute, Tucker has been in their Hearing Enrichment and Developement Program for 13 months to determine if a Cochlear would work for him. We were kind of lucky that it is just 2 hours from where we live, There are not a great number of facilities that even do this type of operation on children so many families have to fly or take very long trips to go through the initial testing process

I don't want to sound cynical, but I find it very sad that in this country there are no mandatory and for everybody affordable health insurances. To my understanding, part of the problem is that the salaries of the health care personnel are way to high.

I had to get that from my chest,
Robert

Not to mention all the illegal ppl in this country get Free medical, of any kind. And citizens and tax payers have to pay for High insurances, or out of pocket... had to get that off my chest too...

You and your son are in our prayers too my friend.. Just pray hard and with belief, it makes miracles happen..... and I can attest to that!

Well, here's something else you should consider:

Half the reason medical care is expensive is to cover malpractice insurance premiums, which can sometimes be so expensive that it keeps some doctors from even wanting to practice. Why are the premiums so high? Yup, frivolous lawsuits with exorbitant financial awards. I'm not saying there aren't some legitimate cases of malpractice -- after all, doctors are only human, and mistakes can happen.

And, since you say that the salaries of health care "personal" (I guess you mean personnel) are too high, maybe you should consider the substantial costs of attending medical school, licensing, continuing education for recertification on a regular basis, etc.

Don't let ignorance cloud judgement. If you want mandatory socialized healthcare, move to Sweden.

Sorry for the thread hijack -- I'm done.

Jeff, best of luck with Tucker, my thoughts are with you.

-A.

I have friends that are Doctors (my wife is a nurse) and what they pay for malpractice insurance should be against the law. My cardiolgist just gave up and retired. As long a jurys hqve the "it is the insurance companies money" attitude we all will suffer with this.

Sure is a worthy enough cause for me to give $100.

Good Luck!

Part of the problem with the Surgery Tucker needs is it is still not considered necessary surgery for a Child. Most of the people we have talked with, that have "good" insurance, have had to go through some pretty big battles to get the Choclear Implant covered. We recieved some paperwork when we first checked into the Choclear Implant that showed just how much money will be spent in 21 years to raise and educate a Deaf Child was over 1 Million dolllars more than it was for a hearing child. So the money spent on a Choclear ends up saving alot of money in the long run.

And I do agree that something is going to have to happen with the Medical System soon, When Tucker was born, Our Major Medical Insurance covered his hospital stay but we still owed over $50,000 for our part. To most people in this country expenses like this force people into Bankruptcy.

Thanks again for the prayers and support

Jeff

The money is well spent MORE so for the fact that Tucker will be able to share a normal life with all his friends and family.
Best of Luck and I am glad I can help, even if in this small way.
