Installed flush mount tail lights tonight and didn't like how far they stuck out so I cut the teflon spacer 1/4". They look alot better but, there's a big gap at the bottom and they move around a little if you touch them or try to clean them. I know, I know, then just don't touch them. Easier said than done. Anyway, anybody done this and got any ideas? I know you will all pull through, let me have it, I can take it.

I did the Lowe's Corvette Accessories version and used weatherstrip inside for the lens to rest against. It stabilizes the lens and will keep some of the dust, water out.
You'll need some 12" pieces of a weatherstrip, or adhesive backed rubber. Tack it in the hole where the light will sit. Put it far enough back to stay hidden. It will look like black molding when installed, and will secure the lights. They go in like a smile, from 9:00 to 3:00. Probably between 1/4" and 1/2" deep. It's been a while since I did mine.
I tried the flush mount and took it back off for just the reason you show in the picture. The holes are tapered and when you put the lights out that far there is a HUGE gap in them. Sure you could fill with weatherstripping, but it still won't look right...
I have no idea how some of these guys get them to look good, I haven't seen many in person to inspect to be sure, but I suspect they all have that same gap.
They probably just try to balance the gap all the way around to minimize the effect.
After looking at it closer, I think in order to center the light better I am going to drill new screw holes in the plastic maybe an 1/8" to 1/4" lower and see how they look. If I post pics (before and after) should I start new thread? Thanks for the tips.
