I came home for Thanksgiving break last night and decided to take the vette out for a drive, everything went smooth and fine it actually ran excellent.
This morning I wake up to wash my car, first I washed my GTO, then I got into the vette to start it up. It wouldn't start up, the battery was dead. All the lights were turned off, don't know how this could've been. So I popped open the hood and looked at the battery, the postive is a big chunk of oxidation/rust, so I removed most of it and jumped the car and it started up. Left it for ten mins for it to run.
I get in the car and backed it out, I noticed that it was running very sluggishly, little to my surprise is this little message on dash that says:
SERVICE COLUMN LOCK
REDUCED ENGINE POWER
so i turned the car off and tried to turn it back on, still same problem and it requires jumping
what do i do? and what's the service column lock? should i replace the battery?
The car is a 2001 Black on Black C5 Convertible

Well....clearly here is you're problem. You but a Goat ahead of America's Only True Sports Car
New battery will fix you up.......Optima red or yellow top.
Haha sorry my GTO is my baby, it gets first dibs, besides the GTO may no tbe america's true sports car but it is all american muscle (besides the fact it was built in Australia haha).
Well anyways, I just tried to jump the car again and it won't start at all, I'm thinking it's the battery, but it also sounds like the starter's not clickin either. I'll have to see.

Your PCM will go into mental convulsions and dillusions, with a bad battery.. Replace it. This is the best pill or cure for a psychotic C5 brain. Remember to clear all codes and reset DIC, afterwards, and call the Doctor in the morning for a progress report
Anytime there is a low voltage in the car battery noted by the computer, the car will throw the dreaded "service column lock" prompt on your DIC. Therefore, replace the battery, ASAP. And, you will be good to go.
