Just curious. I have an '04, and if I start the car with the transmission in gear it is usually difficult to move it out of gear and into reverse. However, if I shift to neutral, then start the car, it easily slips into reverse. Does someone know the reason? Thanks.

I guess I had too much Turkey yesterday - because I'm not really understanding the question.
It is impossible to move the shifter into reverse with the ignition off. But when I start my car - I usually start it in reverse since that's where I leave it when I park. You have to depress the clutch to start the car. There is a solenoid that keeps you from selecting reverse with the ignition off.

I don't know if I answered your question or not?
Sorry I wasn't quite clear enough. When I park the car I leave it in 1st gear. If I depress the clutch, leave it in 1st gear, and start the car, it is difficult to shift it to reverse without first moving to neutral, releasing the clutch, depressing the clutch and shifting to another gear before going to reverse. If I depress the clutch, shift to neutral, then start the car, it easily shifts to reverse without having to release the clutch or shift to another gear first. I suspect it has something to do with the synchro, but I am just curious.

Sometimes I have to double clutch to get mine into Rev or 1st from a stop.
Just found out about a TSB on 04's 6 speeds, they replace flywheel, clutch, and shifter, and fluid....go to your dealer and ask for it!!! I will be taking my o4 into the dealer in the spring, one of my club members has a 04 vert with the same issues and that is what we were told (I was a little bothered that they didn't replace the throwout bering) but ....it's warranty right? ....new clutch and fly wheel..it's worth checking it out! his shifts like butter..much better than mine.

Sounds like a definite problem there. My '00 manual tranny does not have any problems going into gear like that. And, I can shift into reverse with the car's ignition off no problem.
