Default Sold my Z

Well.... I'm getting married and buying a home so I had to part with my '01 Z06. I traded it in for a Chevy Colorado

I hate to sound like a wuss, but I cried on my way home from the dealership. I almost cried as I was signing the paper work but told myself "self I have to hold it together in front of these guys." :o

I'll never forget how it felt to walk away from my Z for the last time.

But there's hope...When I get settled into my new home I'm gonna get an '04 Z, torch red just like my old one.

Sounds like you have your priorities straight. House prices are not getting any cheaper and, you can always pick up a used Z at a decent price in the future. Best of luck with your new home!

I (read my wife here!) sold my z28 to buy our first home. When I walked back in the house after giving him the keys, I told her "you owe me a car" and this year in August, (albeit 27 years later) I collected on that debt!!

I'll tell you something, Nothing is more important than the time you spemd with your wife and kids. I never heard anyone on their deathbed say, You know I spent too much time with my kids and not enough time at work.

Dude, cheer up. You got to spend some quality time with a great car. Think how many people never even get to drive a Z - even once.
We all have to make choices in life and "do what we have to do".
You can get back in a Z when the time is right for you.
Good luck.

I agree, a home is so much more important. You can always buy another Z06 with the equity in your house within a year or so. Good Luck, you made the right choice!

Congrats on the marriage and best of luck!

If you have kids and can't stand it (the idea of no Vette) you can always get a CTS-V, or a STS-V.

I know where you are coming from and you definitely made the right decision. Your marriage and all that comes with it is a much higher priority than any car and you had the wisdom to understand that even though you were attached to your Z. I applaud your decision and hope that in due time you can get back in the saddle!

Due to raising a family and some unexpected medical bills, I had to go a number of years without any performance car. For a car guy like me that was tough. After several years driving family oriented vehicles, I was finally in a position to buy one. I owned a 98 Mustang Cobra, which was just a great car and then last year after 6 years of ownership and modifications I sold it in order to step up into my dream car...a Corvette Z06. I have really enjoyed the car and surprisingly still miss the Cobra. They are very different cars, but both have their strong points.

Congrats on your upcoming marriage! Give it everything you've got and it will reward you far more than any car or other possession can. I have been married for 23 wonderful years and it just keeps getting better and now I've got my dream car to boot!

All the best...

me too. when the c5 first came out i wanted a vette for the first time but i was a single dad raising a young daughter and needed a back seat
so i settled for a 98 black on black mustang cobra. great car but its not a vette. then started dating my present wife in 2000 and her lease ran out on her camry so i started letting her drive my cobra. now its her daily driver and she really likes it after getting used to that stiff mechanical clutch.
so i didn't feel too guilty when i surprised her by coming home last feb. with an excellent used 02 silver z. i still like to drive the cobra occasionally. does great burnouts and doughnuts.

My fiance knows that the car is mine and I will not be selling it for anything. I have a house and pay my mortgage... the only thing that would be tough is if she gets pregnant before we plan for it. But we'd work with it. She has a Mazda 626 that's paid for w/ 4-doors and four seats.

Don't sweat it big guy!! Vettes will come and go, but a home is a HOME.

But hey, you need one of these:

LS2, 400hp... and it'll haul the kids! Mines on order right now...

You guys giving him crap about selling need to cut a bro a break for God's sake!! He's just doing what HE needs to do.

Thanks for the support on this guys. My fiance' never asked me once to give up the Z which I really thought was cool. I came to that realization myself. On the bright side, the Z had 44k miles on it and I thought it best to get out of it by 50 or risk even greater depreciation. Also, I still have my 5.7 Tuned Port Injection IROC Z. It's no Z06 of course but at least it's somthing that'll haul *** 'till I get my next Z
