Default ________________Storage Question___

Hi guys,

I'll be storing my car for the next 5-6 months. I've a few questions:
1. Do I need to change the oil, before I start it next time (After 5-6 months)?
2. Do I need to do Anything, Before I store it?
3. Anything you suggest I should do, WHEN it comes out of storage?
4. By disconnecting my battery for that long, my stereo would get locked up, and require a code to unlock it - which I don't know since the car was used when bought. Also, the I'm concerned about the PCM, and other features locking up, or going out of memory. Any suggestions?

Plz educate me more on this, if I haven't asked some other important questions.

Thanks in advance....

I follow with what I do for winter storage...
Some just park 'em and turn'em off.

It depends on how you care for your car in general.

There is one Do Not leave the old oil in the car. As your engine runs, combustion byproducts are generated. They include water and acid..... you know what your rotors can look like after driving in the rain and left for a day.... rusty... well think about leaving the inside of your engine for months with water and acid sitting in it.

I do a number of things for winter storage.
1. change the engine oil to get the acid and moisture laden oil out of the car.
2. wash, wax and detail , clean inside, treat leather seats
3. put a desicant inside to keep mold from growing
4. pump up the tires to the sidewall maximum to minimize flat spotting
(44 psi on runcraps, as much as 50 on others)
5. put Stabil in gas tank and ensure tank is full to minimize condensation
6. park over top a heavy guage plastic or a plastic tarp to keep humidity away from the frame
7. put on the battery tender.... while the battery is still in the carand connected.
8. cover the car with a outdoor type (cushioned) cover to minimize any damage from bumps during the off-season as you move around the garage

I do not start the car until it is spring and ready to drive for the reasons sited in previous posts

In addition to previous questions, can anyone plz tell me how to deal with or prevent tire flatening during long storage? I mean if a car is standing in the same spot, without being moved in 6-8 months, wouldn't the tires begin to have a flattening affect? Any ideas to prevent this ?

Thanks....

I parked mine on some thick carpet remnents. Will help, but most likely will not eliminate it altogether.

Park it on some pieces of the foam sheeting that they sell at home depot. It will help prevent flat spotting.

Flat spotting???? What in world is that??? I've been storing Corvettes since 1990 (4 month storage time) and have yet to have this so called problem. I make sure I have 30-32 psi air in the tires, park it and forget it. No moving the car forward, backward, putting the tires on custom made pillows, etc. I don't know, maybe I'm just lucky???

You need to have the oil changed, put alittle more air in all your tires add sta-bil to your gas tank and then hook the car up to a battery tender plus cover her up and thats it.My car sits for the whole winter like this and never any problems in the spring when all the snow and salt and rocks are off the road just get in the car and she should start right up for you. charlene
