Default Fatmat tar smell?

I just got a shipment of Fatmat 100 sq ft in. Opening the box and it smells like a road being resurfaced with ashphalt. Is my car going to smell if I install this stuff?

I heard others say that it has a tar smell when installed.

They pitch the FatMat product as the same as DynaMat Extreme at a much lower cost - but DME does NOT have a tar smell - the Original DynaMat did.

Check out the posts by MikeMercury, who has done quite a bit of research on heat/deadening solutions. If I remember correctly he talks about the "smell" issue. The tar smell was a commor problem with the early Dynamat materials.

yep; the Dynomat Xtreme product uses no petroleum based material. Neither does Damplifier offerings either.
Damplifier Pro is very dense and is good to 500 degrees

The price is up there also. Maybe I'll try the Frost King mod.

I have this bad feeling that if I install Fatmat I'll be driving down I-5 mid summer, 105 in the shade, and I will be smelling ashphalt for 200 miles.
