Default Help with my hypertech programmer 97-99 C5 automatic only plz

Hi guys i hgave a 1997 c5 automatic, and was wondering if i can get some advice on the Hypertech power programmer III part # 30028 before i install it. I am looking for the best performance upgrades in the following

1. Should i install the tuning, or will my engine ping? or do i need octane booster with each tank of fuel?

2. shift improvements, should i do 25%, 50%, 75%, or 100%

3. How many more mph should i extend the rps band between gears for optimum performance? 1-2 shift +0-6 mph ?, 2-3 +0-12 mph?, and 3-4 +0-18 mph?

thanks for the input. Only respond if you have a 97-99 c5 automatic, and have tuned your car with hypertech please. -thanks

I had a bad experience with a Hypertec Programer, suggest you check arround before using it.

We had my old car on the dyno, already had a baseline and then loaded the hypertech program. Lost 10 rwhp and the dyno line looked like the alps. We quickly unistalled it and remedied the problem. 6 months latter we were flashing the computer on the A4 after adding 3.73's, the Hypertech had us locked out. Had to dump the entire memory and reload anew.

This was 3 years ago, I'll not use HT again.

wow, thats good to know, well i heard that you shouldnt install the tuning because it causes your engine to ping, but everything else the rev limiter, lower temp thermostat and gears are good. I just bought it for the 3.43 rear diff tuning, but i was wondering how i should tune the rest. -thanks

I had it installed on 03 coupe A4 with a 3.15 rear end.

I will try to remember my setting for you. This is how I set it to race. On the street I usually just set it back to stock.

Power tuning = installed
fans set for 160 thermostat
shift firmness 100%
rev limiter 6600
shift points 1-2 + 2mph and 2-3 +2 mph

interesting, i just maxxed out my rev limiter at 6600, and i increased 1-2 +6 mpg, 2-3 +12 mph and 3-4 +18 mph. i dont redline the car, but i noticed that it really windes out. so i think i will add just 2mph on 1-2, and 2-3, thats sounds pretty practical. -thanks

gottiman, if you have the instruction booklet read the how to on setting your shift speeds. The instructions have a procedure for test and tune night at the strip. I followed that. My best times in the qtr mile were with +2 +2 for the shifts to second and third. When I shifted at higher rpms than that my qtr mile ET started to slow.
