Well, I am thinking about selling my Vette and the potential buyer wants to take it to his mechanic. Of course, I will go with him, but what should I look out for that this mechanic will say to degrade the car (so HIS customer can argue for a better price).
What is it NOT possible to be able to tell by visually inspecting a Vette. I assume you can't assess the life left in the transmission, correct? What other potential issues may he try to "bluff" me on???
Thanks in advance!

Just listen to it all, you know your car. If something is legitimate like it's gonna need brakes OK. Tell him "I'll have them replaced If They Need It by my mechanic".
On the over all just say "That's why I'm selling it at this price, I originally wanted more" Then.. "remember it is used, not new".
.
If the barganing is real, and you want to sell it and the price is fair just decide! You have to determine what you want to sell it for

don't be afraid to stick up for your car... Some guys will badger you to death degrading the car to get a better price... I for one don't care for it.. haggling is one thing but when you start ragging about every little chip in the hood, etc... ARRGGHHHHH!!
"This car is for SALE buddy, it's USED and it will have a few flaws. If you don't like the condition and the price, I have other people that are BUYERS... Thank you for stopping by."
Don't be afraid to do this or somesemblance thereof if you feel the need. Sometimes people need to realize that YOU are serious about selling.
Lol @ me...
Ck. if your town has a lemon busters or like. that way it will be a nuetral mechanic. split the cost, and get a written copy of the report. If sale falls through you have it for the next guy.

FIRST, AND MOST IMPORTANT!
Make sure when this "expert" says he knows how to lift your vette without damaging it you watch him closely. Apologies don't fix damaged rockers or other body parts. Start with "Do you have lifting pucks? You might want to insist on taking it to a place that you know will be careful (and informed) when lifting you baby.

You may want to tell the potential buyer that the Vette price is "firm" and sold as an "as is no warranty". If he wants it, he'll buy is as long as his mechanic does not tell him something drastic is wrong with the car.
If this buyer won't buy it, there are other potential buyers out there who will. Don't get too worked up by this one potential buyer and his technique of buying a car. Of course, from his point of view--it is a good idea to have a mechanic look at it.
Good luck on the sale.

REMEMBER: You have what he wants, NOT the other way around. If he wants it, he will pay for it.

Tough situation. The post about lifting the vette is very valid. It is easy to screw the car up on a lift it you do not know what you are doing. I believe I would draw up a little agreement and make sure who is responsible if the car is damaged.
Unless there is something obviously wrong with the car just looking it over is really not going to tell them anything so don't sweat it.
I usually will not let someone do this unless a contingency offer is put up. Example, I will give you 20K is it passes my mechanic's inspection. Keeps the tire kickers away. If the offer is too low anyway you don't have to waste your time getting it looked at. If the offer is in your range than it is worth your time.

I don't blame him for wanting to have the car checked out - after all it is a lot of money. But don't let the mechanic or the potential buyer tell you something is wrong that you know is
. Like the others have said, it is a used car and there will be some things that may need attention. There will be someone else come along if this guy seems unreasonable.

Go ahead if you trust that the mechanic isn't going to mes your car up. Then post back and tell use what he says is wrong with it.
