Great info. I just got one a couple months ago, have only used it once. I was not impressed with the ease of use, makes sense now that the issue is low fluid. I will check mine tonight.
The ICC. Thats the Federal agency that regulates the transportation industry strictly prohibits shipping of devises, machinery ect that contain full levels of oils, carrosive liquids, flamable, ect for fire prevention in case of accident.
That changes the freight classification of meterials being shipped by truck costing more than general freight and segregating placement of items shipped in the flammable class. yes i know . A lot of momblygook. but the truth. you will not find oils inside power tools that you buy in stores. Moast purchases contain containers of the fluids required seperately packaged (small cans ect). Pleaseeee no spelling flames..just trying to help
I received my Sears 3000 lb floor jack today. I checked it for Hydraulic Jack fluid only to find a very small amout in it. Just enough to let the jack go up.
If I would have tried this jack on my vette before I checked it I am sure the jack would have failed.
I called Sears and after spending 30 minutes on the phone the answer I got was "The jack does not ship with fluid in it". I think this is BS.
None the less, if you bought this jack from Sears by all means check the fluid level in it.
Sears' telephone line is a joke. My air compressor end CAUGHT ON FIRE and when I finally spoke to a human being, they told me to bring the compressor to a service center 30 miles away and it would be at least 2 weeks. Screw that. I cut the plug off, went to Home Depot, bought a heavy duty plug and put it on myself. I try to avoid that place.
I bought the 3000 lb jack also and bled it per the manual and it worked without a problem. This is a great jack compared to the really cheapos I've owned in the past. The best part is how low it starts and how high it will go.
After reading this and thinking about it - I'm going to check the fluid level when I get home (just in case). Thanks for the heads up.

I agree. Shipping like that without any warning sounds like a recipe for a law suit.
I finally got someone from the Sears headquarters and they checked this out. The jack is suppose to be shipped "READY TO GO", in other words it comes with the jack oil in it!
They are sending me a can of jack oil and really did try to make this right.
BUT, I have learned from this to not take any jack for granted. Check the oil level in any jack before use...
