X-Pipe 101 ????
I am picking up a 2000 Coupe very soon and as a Harley person the first mod I want is the sound from the exhaust to make me happy.
After hours of reading this board I have decided on the Corsa Indy with Tiger Tips. Based on my needs and style of driving and the ability to get it quiet on highway runs it is perfect.
Now, where I am unclear is what to do with the X-Pipe and how to pick one out.
Here is my confusion ... is the Corsa X-Pipe a "Cat-Back" design?
Is there an X-Pipe assembly that has hi-flow cats as part of the package that mount up to the tubes from the Stock Header?
So if I go with my stock cats and just want an X-Pipe to mate up to my Corsa -- what do you recommend?
If there is a set up that leaves my stock headers and tubes in place but lets me start with the hi-flow cats and then an X-Pipe what do you recommend.
I do know right now I don't want new headers and I know I need to pass emmisions here in Harris County (Houston) so I will need a Cat -- whether I keep stock or go with high flow.
Thanks for any advice and I promise I read this board inside and out before posting -- but this was the my mental gap.

I had guessed the Headers including their tubes come down and meet up with the Cats and then the H-Pipe then the pipes that lead to the muffler and then to exposed tips.
I want to be clear that you remove the H-Pipe and the cats are still attached to the tubes from the header. From there you attach the X-Pipe and then the Corsa system.
I think I have that right.
Where I need help is deciding if I should just get a Cat-Back X-Pipe or would it be worth it or if someone even makes a Hi-Flow Cat that is part of an X-Pipe set up (Packaged together) so that when you drop the stock cats and H-Pipe the new parts just fit up in there and then you put on the Corsa.
But just factor in I don't want at this time to change the Headers. Although that SuperMaxx Complete System looks amazing.
But I do understand the benefits of the X-Pipe. And heck, I may learn there is no reason to go to hi-flow cats if you don't improve the headers ... if that's so let me know.
Hope my mud is clearer.

So let me rephrase .... I am getting the Corsa Indy with Tiger Shark Tips ...
If you were me what X-Pipe would you get?
I know the Bassani may require cutting and welding (so it says).

ALL X pipes (unless you get long tube headers) will require cutting of the OEM H pipe (which is the same piece as the cats). You can either weld that piece on, or just use the supplied clamps.
I use a Magnaflow X pipe, and I like it alot. A much more refined sound then the motorboaty H pipe sound.
Anyone post a pic? The best advice would be to look under a C5 and you'll see exactly what we mean.
Keep your stock cats, cut the stock H-Pipe and install the X-Pipe.
Roughly $275
I believe the Corsa X-Pipe comes with clamps for the forward connection and bolts to the muffler flange in the back, so there should be no welding required.

Option 2:
Replace everything between the header and the muffler.
Something close to $700
You can still use the Corsa X-Pipe, or you can get the kit from Random Tech:

I haven't done either yet, but I am planning to do the Corsa X-Pipe in the near future.
Technically, aftermarket cats are not legal here in California, but several CF members claim they have no problem passing smog checks provided they choose a tester not interested in looking under the car.
Hope this helps.

The Corsa X-Pipe is roughly $300 and the Random X-Pipe with Hi-Flow Cats seems to be about $750 at Tbyrne's - is the additional $450 worth it without getting headers? (measurable gains on the Dyno, etc)
By the way -- I emailed Tbyrne's about their sale that ends Jan 9 and the Corsa Indy with Tigersharks are sub-$1000 (with shipping just over) and that seems to be a good price from all my checking.
I do see the logic of going all Corsa. I guess what made me write this post in the first place is that I noticed a bunch of posts where people said they got the Corsas, Borlas, Bullets, etc., but then would just say they got an X-Pipe without referencing a brand on the X-Pipe.
I saw other posts where some people would warn about looking for a "true" X-Pipe but I was never able to really get a good handle on if there was an X-Pipe that stood head and shoulders above the rest.
Thanks for those of you who have taken the time to help spell this out for me. I am glad to know if I go all Corsa (Indy & X) that it bolts up behind the factory cats. I have a guy down the street who will do the labor for under a $100 because his lift combined with my not being much of a do-it-yourselfer make a great combo.

Thanks .. I am just being silly but I am so looking forward to this car.
I contacted the owner two years about buying it and we were close to the deal and it just didn't happen for whatever reason.
I then moved on to my next mid-life crisis toy -- a Harley. I would end up buying 3 Harleys in a year before I settled on my Softail Deluxe.
Then out of the blue while I was looking to trade in my F-250 on a F150 Supercrew I got an Instant Message from the guy and he said he was finally selling it and he promised to give me first shot.
It was like devine intervention ...
Just to show off here are a couple pics of my Scooter.

I am glad to be a part of this forum ... my next goal after this to bug the readers of the audio section so I can make improvements to the Bose system.
