Yesterday I heard a weird sound and poped the hood to find the drive belt 2 notches off of the tensioner pulley. Noticed a little wear where it had been sitting on the edge of the pulley....Drove about 10 minutes home and put it back on all the way
Went to start the car and the pulley went back out to the same spot upon crankup. Did this twice in a row. It doesn't come off but it stays about half way off and makes a horrible sound.
Sounds like something is out of alignment to me. Or could it be just a streched out belt? Maybe the tensioner itself is worn out and too loose?

I had this same problem with my Camaro and it was the tensioner. Its not that hard to install a new one...
HAd it happen on a friend's LS1 TA, Exact same problem, half off the pulley. We poped it back on and to my knowledge he hasn't had that happen again. But i would say the tensioner is to blame. And get yourself a new belt while you're at it of course.
But just rest more warmly in the fact that it isnt just us vette owners.
Had noisy a/c compressor belt & had to change the tensioner as well.If you are changing main belt & tensioner suggest you do a/c stuff too,as they seem to have similar life span.....
