Default what would you do ?

keep my 2000 coupe Super/Charge it ?
buy a 04 com z06 start modding all over ?
put a 6sp in my 00
my 2000 has 19,000 miles is it worth putting $7 or $8 thousand in to a 2000
I love my coupe love that I can take the roof off
but I would love a Z with a6 spd 3:42 gears . but then all the modding would start over . would love to get in to road racing and to me a 6spd is mandatory

Hi Johnny -

Your statment about loving to remove the roof is the deal breaker IMO.

A lot of folks on this forum are really adamant that they like the targa (or a vert) and nothing less will do (read no FRC...)

My opinion - mod your some more - heck it is practically brand new and you know what you have.

I am waiting to decide what I want to do until about this time next year - I will either mod my Z06 (power adder or H/C) OR buy a LS7 Z06. I will have plenty of time to decide, and I am betting the market for the new Z06 (dang they should have called that car a Z07...) will be softer - there will be some out there just like there were lots of 405hp Z06's available when I bought mine in Dec 2001.

Good luck either way you go - can't wait to see what you come up with!

best regards -

Love to remove the top and a 6spd is mandatory and also would consider buying another car...

My Solution... buy a new targa coupe with 6spd already in it. Different color maybe?

Oooorrrrrrrrrrr buy a Z06 and get out the hacksaw.

With those few miles, just mod the coupe. As long as it is running fine, why switch.

Johnny, Johnny, Johnny, DO IT!!!! My .02 is keep the car and supppppper charge it. Deep down you know eventually you will end up with an 05/06 ZZZZZ. You know what you have now and you also know by the time you spend the extra cash for the 04 Z plus your mods you will be money ahead. I would hate to see you take the old sawzall to the roof of the Z so you can see some sky. It's a tough call my friend and it will be a difficult decision. You have some specific desires with the trans., gears, etc. I told ya before just talk to Kevin about getting that short through shifter for your A4. Best of luck and hope to see you next week.

If you decide to get a Z16 '04 Comm Z06, let me know. A friend has one with about 6,000 miles on it for $38,000.00

Keep it & mod it. You can make it better than a stock Z06 if you want to and retain the targa top as you said. The best of both worlds. If its an auto shifter add a torque convertor & 3:42's along with that supercharger and you will be flying.

Lose the coupe...

First of all, you will never get your dough back out of it. A Z06 has a stronger trany, etc has got better torque and is ready for more. Sounds like you want a different car from the mods your wanting to put in it? You want a 6 speed, etc.

Buy a mod'ed out Z and you'll save a ton as mods seriously hurt resale. I saw a used ad here for a guy selling a 04 that he had put all the Lingenfelt stuff into - he was into it for well over $80K and had no response in his asking of $47K and it had super low miles. He even made the comment in his ad that he had no idea how little value the used market put on his mods...

If you want to mod the crap outta something and stess the engine to the max, get a high mileage '98, for $18K and go to town. Or the other way is what your considering which is a nice '04 with the trans and features your about to spend a fortune on... Ask yourself would you buy a used Vette that's been turbocharged, or has run Nitros, etc.... that's a red flag the engine has been trashed for the sake of the current owners desire to go fast....

Just my $.02
