Hi All,
With great pleasure I tell you that things are starting to roll with the brake setup. I've had plenty of rotors for quite some time. Now the calipers are starting to roll in. The problem child is the brake pads themselves right now, but I am working with GM on all of these items to get them to our valued forum members.
Next week, we will be receiving 3 complete sets of calipers, which we already have rotors for. I have 2 sets promised to 2 customers already and the 3rd set will be placed on eBay.
Remember, we are one of the first dealers in the whole country to receive these items. We are on the cutting edge of this stuff so that you may get it first!
what price range are they in?
is that msrp? or is there a mark-up right now?
when will the rears be available? is there any problem with installing the rears?
Gene that's an amazing price for a great product, but the pad design is a huge PITA for us "road racers" (HPDE's for me) No a/m companies want to make a nice track pad for the necessary shape just yet.
People don't forget you'll have to get an 18" front wheel to clear the new setup. I have 18" CCWs so I'm good to go... the other problem is the drilled rotors are crap for track use.
Maybe the calipers can be adapted for a single pad on each side. What would happen if somebody removed the bolts that act as guides for the individual pads and also removed those little clips that are below each piston??? What standard pad would fit then??
Bill
I wouldn't bet on any brake pad modification for these. Six piston calipers that use a single pad have different size pistons to compensate for leading edge pad bite. The pistons in the new Z06 calipers are all the same size because each piston has it's own pad and therefore it's own leading edge. This configuration will actually give you better braking performance as you will have six leading edges instead of just two per wheel. As for the rotors,,,, I agree that the stock ones will probably serve to be less then track quallity but might at least get you by until an after market company like stop tech comes out with a two piece slotted rotor. I just wish my stock front Z06 wheels would fit over these brakes. If they did I'd place my order with Gene this minute.
