Time to replace the stock run-flats. I'm pretty well convinced to skip the run flats this time around and just hope I don't get a major blow out. I'm looking for suggestions for replacement tires considering my major factors are price and noise level, followed by longevity before handling. I just don't drive very hard as the car is my daily driver, not a weekend toy.
The rears now are shot, so I'm buying in the next couple of days. Thanks in advance!
Goodyear GS D3's are what I replaced my stock runflats with. A friend of mine got the Pilot Sports tires and says they a noisier than my GY's. I love them. No more bump steer and the noise is 100% better. I'd buy them again without question.
What about Firestone Firehawks SZ 50 EP RFT these are run flats suppose to be quite and better ride than Goodyear or Michelin any one have them on their car.
I just put the Firestone Firehawk runflats on 2 weeks ago. I had GY F1 supertires. The ride is much better and the noise level is so much better. My car is also a daily driver not a garage queen.
I really like Firehawks (well at least on my C4 I did). I've got Kumho Ecsta MX's now (for the 2nd time around) and don't care for them. For a non-runflat, I'd go with Michelon PS's.... don't think they make the non -runflat Firehawks in the size I need anymore.
Poltergeist, you have MX's a second time and you don't like them? I did see that they are "cheap". What's wrong with them?
They don't last... at least for me. I should've said I've got a 2nd set of rear Kumhos on. There was too much tread left on the fronts to justify replacing all 4.
IMHO: I personally prefer the Goodyear GS D3's over the Firehawks. Period. The notable differences in handling characteristics is evident especially in the rain. Moreover, Firestone Tire Service Dealerships have a very strict company policy in that they will refuse to do a flat repair on most of their tires (voids speed rating, etc.). This specific policy especially, and, predominantly applies to the runflats. However, always shop around, for you will find other independent tire service dealers familiar with run flats, who are competent, and, can perform a thorough and proper flat repair on runflats, provided that the afflicted tire is repairable (no unusually large holes, side wall punctures, or, side wall damage). Good luck to you.
As an low cost alternative, AND, great tire value, the Falken Beta FK-451's are available in o.e., AND, Plus 0 sizing for o.e. C5 wheels: 255/40-17 fronts, and, 285/35-18 rears. Cheers.
You might want to check out the Pirelli P Zero Nero. I just bought a set of 4 to replace my run craps and couldn't be happier.
They're all season tires with a treadwear of 400, traction AA.
They look great and are very quiet.
Good luck.

If you want to go with a A/S that will give you good tread, quite ride, and longer tread life (rated 400) take a look at the Pirelli Zero Nero M+S. I put a couple on the front of my Vert and they work great.
Going to buy some new larger rims and leaning towards them for that to.
Check Discount Tire Online (not just discount tire) and Tire Rack (look at their tests and comparisons. Tire Rack will rate them against other A/S and they rate 1 or 2 in their tests. Kumho's not rated quite as high but good value.
Cost should be about $700 for a set front and back. Good value for what you are looking for i think. Not as good as a summer tire in some respects but rated W 168mph.
Good luck

Pirelli Cost should be about $700 for a set front and back. Great value for what you are looking for, i think. I drive similar to what you describe. Not as good as a summer tire in some respects but for cost, ride, quiet, tread wear, handling I think they are hard to beat. Rated W 168mph and tread is 11/32 rather than 10/32 on most tires.
Good luck

In answer to your question: Absolutely, YES! In fact, I have been purchasing Falken Tires for my vehicles for nearly twenty years. The Falkens are one of my favorite low cost high performance tire alternatives that I have had installed on most of my IROCS, 5.7L GTA's, and, Corvettes (even on one of my C5's, whereby, I installed a Plus 0 sizing upgrade in the Falken Beta FK-451's). Now, suffice it to say that my Pirelli P-Zero Rosso Assimetrico's, Nitto NT 555RII's, and, Goodyear GS D3's, offer more improved high speed performance. However, for a daily driver, you cannot beat the overall value that the Falken Beta FK-451's offer in price. Good luck to you.
