Has anyone tried the Pirelli Zero Nero tires? They have great reviews on tirerack.com 's survey page for performance & wear ratings. I'm looking for a tire that will last longer than 20k miles (Goodyear) and will give a smoother ride & will be quieter. I'm willing to sacrifice a bit of "stick" but don't want to slide off the road either.
I'm also considering the Michelin PS2.
I'm planning to buy the Continental Tire ContiComfort Kit from tirerack to backup the non-runflats. Tirerack assures me that this fix will not harm the pressure sensors and will plug a hole up to 1/4". Does anyone have experience with this kit?
I'm in the same boat as you , Torch. My runflats are done, and I'll be buying tires this winter to go onto my new wheels. I've read a lot of great things about the Pirelli P Zero Nero on the forum. Lots of compliments on the treadwear, handling and looks. The price is pretty decent too. Defintely a front-runner for me!
What kind of miles are people getting out of the Goodyear's? My experience with Goodyear's is that the mileage is poor. Have they made an improvement with the GS-D3 tire?
Also, how about the Falkens or Firestone Wide Ovals?

I got 25k from my rear GS-D3s, and currently have 30k on my front (and they have, I'd guess, another 10k in them).
I have the Pirelli's P Zero Nero and I'm very impressed.
The steering responce is excellent, handling is great and wet weather traction is excellent as well.
Much (much) quieter than the run craps. The ride is very confortable.
I bought them in August and have put about 5,000 miles on them.
I think they look great too. Only downside is the rears don't come with rim protector bead.
I paid $700 for the 4 at CJ tire who matched Tire Rack plus shipping, but that also included the mounted and balancing.
I assume you are talking about the Zero Nero A/S at that price and somewhere around stock sizes. The P Zero Nero doesn't look like it comes in good sizes till it gets to 19 & 20 inch wheels.
Anyway i put a set of the Zero Nero A/S 245/45/17's on the front of my 2k and they work great. Tire rack says they aren't as good in rain as a Max summer tire but seem great to me.
They are much softer ride and very quiet. The weather is colder in the Spring and Fall in the NW and these tires are supposed to be a better ride and grip in cooler weather. I drove them in 90+ weather in August and they had good grip.
The tread looks just like the other Pirelli tire, the compound is probably a little more flexible for colder weather grip. Also the tire tread is listed at 11/32nd while most others, especially the summer tires are only 10/32nds. Tread wear should be better from this alone.
Just ordered a set of ZO6 rims 17x9.5 & 18x10.5 and going to try the Pirelli Zero Nero A/S 275/40/17 on the front with 285/40/18's on the rear. That's as big as Pirelli comes in those rim sizes and they are perfect match for the stock tire height so should be no distortion in speedometer etc, just a little wider tires.
I don't drive my car in the snow, to much crap on the roads up here and not in the rain much. I checked out the Tests & Buyer reviews on Tire rack. Very good ratings. Not many Vette reviews but look at what some of the Mercedes driver had to say too....Hope that helps, I like Pirelli's though.
I've got the P Zero Neros on my car and am thoroughly impressed with them! They handle extremely well for all season tires, but yet still can get through heavy rain and even light snow with no trouble too.
I've got almost 26k on my fronts and they still have more than half their tread left!! So these tires definitely can go the distance. (I bought the fronts last year and just recently replaced the rear runflats with the Pirellis too)

They do now. The fronts that I purchased last year didn't have them, but when I just got the rears a couple of months ago, they did have the rim protectors.
Maybe a dumb a question,,, but what are Rim Protectors?
It's when there is an extra little "lip" of rubber down close to where the tire meets the rim, this way if you have a close encounter with a curb, that little bit of extra rubber sticking out might just keep your rims scuff free.
I almost ordered the pirelli's today, but wound up going with the toyo t1-r's. Two things that tipped the scale for me, was the idea that the front (or rear) tires wouldn't have the rim protector, then I read a review stating that the spike design that runs along the sidewall, points forward on one side and rearward on the other (that would have driven me nuts...I'm **** like that). Can any of you guys confirm or deny this design flaw?
Vette 94: Jay at Discounttiredirect.com talked me out of the Falkens. He liked them for my son's Jetta but put me into Nitto 555 Extremes. Reason stated was that the Falkens run small. Sounds very odd to me but he'd have no real reason to lie to me. I was thinking about doing a plus 0 with these and he said if I went Plus 0, I'd get no more rubber than I would with the Nittos but cost $100 more and change handling, speedo, etc. I honestly can't say that I can prove this and at this point also don't really care. Local discount tire store put the Nittos on yesterday and they seem very nice. Quiet, stick, etc but compared to completely bald EMTs on dew covered roads, no surprise.
One last comment. The on-line store was great. I actually got the tires in 22 hours! The local discount tire store was happy to install the tires. The store manager asked me what I paid for them. I made him tell me what he would charge me. Grand total savings for buying on line was $40 without working him. Maybe I was lucky but net is that I'm personally going to get a price on line then call the guy and get his price and if its close, I'll pay a small premium to keep a neighbor employed. Just FYI. (And don't get me wrong, the on-line store guy I dealt with was great.)

Thats odd. Here is the link for Discount Tire and they have the Falkens in 17" and 18". Very good price too. They look just like the GoodYear GS D3 but about half the price. I have no idea how good of a tire the Falkens are but if anyone knows please post and let me know. It looks like a good tire and it is Z rated too! http://www.discounttiredirect.com/di...004&vid=007683
Good ole falkens. I'm assuming you're talking about the Fk's. I put 27k miles on them in a year with many, many spirited cruises. Still have some tread left. According to tests in europe, they're comparable to the pilot sports. I've never ran the PS's, so i can't say.
I'm certainly not dis'in the Falkens. I've only heard good things about them. Without getting into "The Conspiracy Theory", I can't imagine any reason the discounttiredirect guy would have lied to me since he put me over to a similar priced tire, same ratings, etc. And yes, clearly, the right sizes are available, even in plus 0. So, give them a try if you want!
There are so many great tires to choose from that offer impressive overall performance: Goodyear GS D3's, Pirelli P-Zero Rosso assimetrico's, Michelin Pilot Sports PSII's, Nitto's 555R's, are my personal favorites. However, if you are looking for a good low cost tire value that is still properly speed rated, you may certainly opt for the Falken's, Nitto 555 Extreme's, and, the AVON tires. As an informative aside do access the following link. And, on this thread I post several responses that discuss the Falken tire product. Personally, I have been purchasing Falkens for nearly twenty years, and, they are an exceptional value:
