Default Noise...???

Hey, maybe you guys know something about this...When I shift after winding out a gear my car makes a sort of screech noise, sounds like a mix of belt slippage and a blow of valve. I'm not quite sure where it's coming from or what it is...any thoughts?

And no I don't have a blow off valve..

Are you sure you're not hearing the wheels spinning on the shift?
A Z06 will spin the rears on a strong shift to 4th at 100 and 5th at 140+.

If it isn't tire spin, then a mechanical screech on a high rpm shift is not normal. Suggest you try to isolate the source.

If it's a a belt or pulley, as you offered, then you may get the noise by raising the the rpm of the engine (at normal op temp) to say 5500-6000 and then backing off the throttle. If you do that with the hood up and the driver's door open, you should be able to quickly tell it the noise is from the engine bay.

I've never heard a clutch or drive train make such a noise. Anyone else?

I'm getting a similar screeching sound but as I rev the engine it increases in speed also. When I press in the clutch, the sound decreases.

Did you ever figure out what was wrong?

It sounds like high rpm belt slippage to me. This can occur as belts start to age and slip under high demand conditions such as at the higher rpms you are turning at the top of each gear. This sounds like the logical first thing to eliminate as a possible source. It could also be the bearings on one of your pulleys. I would check the belts and accessory drives.

Good luck!

It was belt slippage. Got it fixed today. Thanks for the tip.
