When you replace your tires, did you also replace the seals and valve stem for the low pressure sensors? If you did, where did you get them and how much were they?
Steve,
Yes. You must replace the little O-rings on your 98's wheel sensors. The valve stems are part of the sensor and cannot be replaced. Some folks go to Home Depot to get the gaskets. I wanted to be sure and just bought them from the GM Parts counter for $7.00 or something like that.
The ones that came off were completely smashed flat. They were also contributing to my front left tire loosing pressure when the temp dropped. You really should replace the o-ring gaskets when you change the tire. Cheap insurance.
Two suggestions. 1) replace the o-rings 2) watch the tire guy and be sure the sensors go back in the same place on the car. If they stay in the same point on the car you don't have to retrain them. It's not a big deal to retrain but it's also not a big deal for them to take one tire off and put it back in the same place. Like said above the valve stem and sensor are all one. No need to replace on a newer model Vette unless you noticed problems.

UH?? don't have any choice. Each tire is 'directional' and can not be rotated, so the left front wheel/tire that is taken off HAS to go back on in the same place.

Not if the dolt at the tire store busts all the tires down, then starts mounting them... Its sometimes done that way so they can maximize the use of the tire machine while they are waiting for your new tires to be pulled from stock

You obviously haven't watched 17yr tire jockeys mount tires. I even caught them putting the "directional" tire on the wrong direction. Like Kid said they tend to bust down all four and start mounting the new ones. I think if you study the situation you'll realize the rims aren't directional, just the tires. A rim can be put on the opposite side w/o any problem. Some folks run the same diameter all around so they could be put on any one of the four corners w/o too much problem.

What Eddie is saying here is make sure the sensor goes in the correct wheel it came out of..R/RF, L/LF, R/RR and L/RR. Or you will have to retrain each wheel to read correctly on the DIC..
