I recently replaced my leaking Delco battery with an Optima. When I installed it I did not even try and replace the foam insulator cover. Any harm in that ? What is the purpose of that insulator anyway ?
It is just for shielding and insulation. I replaced my OEM battery with and Optima red two years ago and did not put the insulator back in. Its been fine.

Same here. I replaced mine with an Optima and ditched the insulation. No problem thus far.
