I'm a newby with a question and what better place then to ask here. Okay, '01 C5, 15000 miles. When the engine is cold, and by the way when I say cold, I live in Arizona so cold means in high 50', I get a knock, almost sounds like a rod and a very high whistle noise until the engine is up around 200 degrees then it goes away. I've had 2 other C5's and don't remember anything like this. I'm definetly no mechanic and wouldn't dare touch this engine other than routine maintenance.
Any suggestions?????????? knock-knock
Sounds like it could be piston slap... Mine has it really bad when its cold and then as then temp climbs past 100 or so it goes away... Annoying but from what I hear its relatively normal with the LS1 engine... Somebody else may chime in with something else...

I have an '01 and have the same thing,
Two things that were recomended to me to aid this is to get K&N "gold" oil filter (for what reason I didn't fully understand) and I am also going to try "Royal Purple oil instead of Mobile one.
The reason is the RP is supposed to be more "tenacious" at clinging to where it's supposed to; So what the heck, it's worth a shot!
